The Settings Remain The Same:

I got locking keys too. Even with that I'm constantly tuning. imagine how weaker fingered or older players like Billy G which I've read uses 7's have to retune or have their road techs change fiddles cause.

Wow!!!

On my 1982 Fender Frankenstein, I can drop it 11 semitones repeatedly and you can't make it go out tune...Period.

Last night, we rehearsed for 5 hours in 40°F Temps in a converted garage. I tuned before the first set. When I checked my tuning at the end of the night, it was dead-on the money.

I would give away any guitar that caused me tuning issues.

Nope. 10s on this one, 9 on the locking ones. I can't play 8s. Would be Like thread.

How could you possibly do a 2 step bend with a .010??? I have .009's and it's a struggle by the end of a 4 hour set.

We've played Buddy Guy's "I Smell A Rat" which features a 2-1/2 step bend.

I usually bend the B string, same note. I use 10s on those and 9s on the FR equipped.
I don't play 4 hr sets and bend it as much as Isee fit for what I'm doing. I guess if I felt I hadda do that wide a bend on the E then I would play a 9 equipped guitar.
I just play. Whatever suits.

I'm considering going lighter. 4 to 6 hour shows are the norm for us...but for us, it's how we make a living, so we don't have a lot of options. Through this entire pandemic, we have been one of the only bands still working full time, something we are very grateful for.

An average show will give us 10 minute breaks every 50 minutes and a 30 minute break between our 2 or 3 hour sets. We've even done a 1 hour encore at the end of a 6 hour set.

Yngwie uses. 008 x .046 and I'm considering the switch on my YelloStrat, because it might ease up the wear on my fingertips.

Where do you play such long sets? What venues want entertainment for that long? Here it is 3 hrs playing over 4 hrs at a club. Otherwise maybe an extra half hr at a large event of some sort.
I might go to 9s on some more though.

We play a lot of private estate parties and other "underground" events.

Mill Creek Cattle Company has us playing from 5:30pm to 1:30am on the first Saturday of every month with a 90 minute dinner break.

These are the norm out here anyways...

Holy old crapcan! That is one long hail man. Here is 9 to 1 or 10 - 2. The supper crowd is totally different from the night crowd.

I'm in the process of stepping down a notch after more than four decades on .010s.
Going to .0095s on Gibson/PRS and .009s on 25½" scale guitars.
Easier on the hands; surprisingly little sacrifice in output & tone.

Switching to medium picks actually requires more of an adjustment for me.
I use heavy picks too. Medium are too soggy.

After doing some research, I stopped by Guitar Sinner and picked up (2) .008's, (2) .010's and a pair of .015's for $5.00.

With my current .046/.036/.026 on the top, this would give me a lot less tension on the plain strings at standard tuning on my 25.5" Frankenstein Stratocaster and maybe less wear on my fingers.
