Cool Guitar Stuff They Don't Make Anymore

I just ran across this. This is a Floyd Rose trem from the '80s that requires NO routing into the guitar body, and is made to mount to the studs and stop tail, as in a Les Paul or SG. From the internet searching I've been able to do, it seems that it worked pretty well.

Why...why...WHY is this not made anymore! Okay, I know the answer. It must not have sold well enough.

But, what is even more frustrating is that Floyd Rose's current surface-mount trem is the HUGE FRX system. This thing here is so much more compact.

Arrrgh!

Wow, that thing is wild. Never saw one before.
So, you can obviously dive with that set-up, but can you pull back from zero?? It's to difficult to determine from the picture, but I'm thinking....no?

From what I understand, yes, you can dive and pull up. When installed, the bridge plate floats due to string tension, so you could dive and bend.

I don't think you'd get quite the diving range that you'd get from a typical Floyd, but I'd think you could still get quite a drop. I can tell from the screws in the back, behind the fine tuners, that it is also a double-locking setup.

This seems like such a great idea. It's a pity it's not made, anymore.

Here's the crazy part...it appears to use a regular Floyd bridge plate!

The part in the center of my picture is an adaptor plate that replaces the typical block and springs. It looks like the rest of it is a regular Floyd!

For me the best thing is that it all mounts flat - doesn't need the well beneath it for the block. That's a major plus.

OH MAN.......I am not a TREM guy--- was back in the day-- had one of these on a Yamaha---- I had NO IDEA they didnt make them anymore!!!! WTF?!?!?

Yeah everything other than the mounting plate looks identical to original Floyd. Pretty cool. For the right application this thing would be awesome and a necessity.
