...now I have to start profiling and getting the plunge lines in. After that I can try my hand at heat treating. Never done heat treating before. Hope I don't ruin a bunch of steel.

Maybe I should just heat treat a piece of flat stock for practice...

This is somting ive been intrested in, I've got a colection of cool knifes but would like to get forge to pound them out

These are all made by "Stock Removal". Forging is much more difficult and without a power hammer it's super labor intensive.

I have a small forge, an anvil and a hammer. It wore me out just barely getting a railroad spike flat. Here is a pic. This is 30 minutes of hard labor!

I laid out a regular spike to show how little was actually moved...

I can make a knife that satisfies me when I'm done. Not so with the guitar, just frustration and disappointment...

It's okay, we can't all be guitar slingers. I gave it 8 years and a lot of lessons. I can still have some fun, but I strive to be good at what
I do. I'll never play guitar to a level that brings me true satisfaction. So I'll pick it up and give it go from time to time, but I just need
to focus on things I'm more equipped for.

You guy are just going to have to suffer knife threads on a guitar forum...

I'm sure my surgery will solve my acid issues and I'll be back to normal in a few months!

Not as far as making my own. I have some on order from another maker. I will shape and grind my own blade from it.

You really need a power hammer to make your own Damascus. Pounding 120 layers of steel together by hand is just
not possible for me...
