Post your Recording that are the Perfect Recordings to test Headphones or Speakers with.

The Butcher Brothers absolutely killed the production of these two. Easily two of the best-sounding rock records I have ever listened to - I think the fact that they had never done a rock band before had something to do with it but I don't know, they are both just sonically superior.:

The remastered version of this is a speaker-destoyer:

This is recorded beautifully and is so dense it's a real challenge for speakers

And this ain't rock but a cool dynamic challenge for a sound system:

Holy camoly Gball., I knew you'd pop in with some good ones. I was hoping to get this one in before anyone chimed in, but a plumbing emergency came up at the step daughter's apartment in Bmore and I was trying to walk her through a Fail to stop running Toilet valve issue.

I will insert my other Floyd entry in my original message.. Shine on you Crazy Diamond is hard to beat.

Thievery is the only one I am not familiar with. G.
It is good to know someone else who likes Chevelle too.

For rock and roll, these two Frank Marino records are probably the best produced records of the eighties. It has to be the vinyl though. Unless they finally got around to remastering them. "Strange Dreams" and "Ain't Dead Yet" need to played at max!

And then, this is probably the best produced record of all time. With a good stereo and good speakers or headphones, you can sit back and close your eyes while listening to it, and pick out from each part of the room the individual sounds are coming from. It sounds like you're in the studio with the band playing around you. And, the version of "Madman Across the Water" with Mick Ronson that's on this record is incredible. It blows away the version on that particular album.

On a 100W stereo with kick ass speakers, this just rocks cranked...

Almost anything REO is a good test.

The Metallica Load album is a good test in my Civic. I swear Honda used that album to tune the stereo for best sound. I’ve had It cranked enough that the door skin and outside mirrors are vibrating. One day I was feeling it in the seat belt. I may be old..... but I still like my rock loud.

I use a variety of songs to test systems out. The most important thing is consistency. Always use the same songs to test your systems.

There are two songs that I use every single time.
Def Leppard Hysteria - If you can hear the 3 chord chime at the intro of the Chorus distinctly, then you've got a nice and clear system
ZZ Top Rough Boy - The three bass notes at the very beginning of the song are tough to reproduce, especially the third as it's very very low. Most systems make them sound like 1-2-1 when it is actually 1-2-3 with 3 being super low. If you can hear three different notes, you know your bass system is on point.

The cool thing was when I set up for Slayer/Exodus concert some years ago, the Sound Tech was blasting Madonna Vogue for like 30 minutes straight.

I can see how that would happen.
