Sometimes, I sit around and just listen to music. From SRV to Yngwie, I hear many compositions that are truly amazing. However, I keep coming back to Hendrix.

The movements in his solos are truly incredible. I can play a few Yngwie solos...and while they are lightning fast, they are far easier (for me anyways) than following Hendrix.

With Yngwie, the solos are blistering 3 and 4 note per string patterns that are played rapidly. But with Hendrix, the bends are dramatic and if you don't get the bends exactly right, it won't sound anything at all compared to his original work.

Hendrix's use of two and three string phrases, chord inversions, hammer ons, pulloffs and wild bends is just mesmerizing. Some of Jimi's bends require you to move up qhickly one or two frets to execute the bend, then quickly move back down to the correct pitch and try to do so in seamless fashion.

Mind blowing...

About 2 years ago, I recorded a cover of "All Along The Watchtower" here in my home studio. The band recently asked me if I would add (my version) of this song to our live set, so I sat down this morning to relearn all the solos.

Hendrix was a true genius and his work is difficult to follow...I'm having to relearn all my own parts to my own cover version!!!!

Over the last 40 years I have had an on-again/off-again love affair with Hendrix. There are times what I want to listen to little else and there are times that I may go 6 months without spinning a Hendrix record.
Gonna be honest here, I dig him much more as a songwriter than strictly a guitar player. That's where I think his true magic was personally. Great player for sure, but not really my favorite player to listen to just for the sake of the guitar playing (if I'm being completely honest probably not even top 10). But damn, the songs are just so amazing.

I can understand that. When I listen to "Wind Cries Mary" or "Foxy Lady," I am awed by the simplicity of the song's structure, while at the same time impressed with the lyrical significance of his work.
