New Guitar Project

While waiting for the body and hardware, I figured that I would get the neck ready. Having never been used, and possibly not well dried, there was no relief and a bit of forward bow. So I tightened the double action truss rod to the left to create relief and put 20 lbs on it to help the process along. After 2 days, the relief is establishing itself.

I was thinking of this precise control placement. Thoughts?

Which do you use more often, and base that for your layout? If you're always on the volume, and want an easy spot to reach for swells or loudness, then put that first. If you toggle back and forth between pickups, then that. The big change for many Teles was to reverse the plate, then go Volume, tone, switch. Then you have better control of the knobs, especially if being heavy on a particular pickup.

Ray, Hack will get you there. Just remember, you will want to practice on something such as a 2x12 to get the feel for the process. Also set your router bit partway down and rout out the cavity in multiple increments till reaching desired depths. Also if you plan on drawing the outline and routing to it free handed I suggest routing with plenty of room like 1/4 inch inside your outline and then you can very gingerly approach the final line.

Not sure if Hack will be getting you to make a routing jig/template to follow or not. but this is what I would do. SG John has made guitars as well. I am sure he will chime in.

Yeppers, that is the exact plan, Chili!
Ray & I are already halfway through page 4 of our conversation, outlining the plan of attack.
Using "27 eight-by-ten color glossy photographs, with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one."
