my wife was like, you see how it makes you feel you lose control .... why you play ? ..... me... I HAVE TO KILL HiM!!!!!!!!!! :)

likely i finished and no more games for me I killed him with no mercy :)

You guys haven't lived...

what does a silly game have to do with my serious post? Please do not change the subject focus
Thats how we roll here. We all have some form of Attention Deficit Disorder at a minimum, some of us probably shouldn't be allowed around power tools, ovens or to even ride a bicycle. But merrily we roll along the Crazy Train: hail Ozzy, our lord and savior.

I admin a small corvette site and we do the same stuff, derail threads all the time, hell it’s part of the fun. We’ve been a site for 20 years. We agreed about 15 years ago there are times when you would like a serious post about something. We adopted starting the post title with “TQ” (for Technical Question) and it’s been honored ever since. It’s not used often, but sometimes you just want a straight answer.

Any comments about having something like this here ?

TQ does that mean I have to be smart ??? ;) :):H5:

I had heard of the Fretlite but never saw the video.
Looks like a good learning method for fast riffing but seems one dimensional in that there is no "feel" for bending / vibrato.
I think if I started learning that way I would be like a cat chasing a laser pointer and it would not translate to playing without the lights.

I could see intermediate or advanced players benefit if there is a library of songs where you could learn covers quickly.

The Puputar came yesterday. Not happy. I did not realize it was a thinline but that is my bad. It is very light and looks and feels like a toy. I figured due to having frets that are cast and forged instead of wire, that they would be really smooth with no sprout. They do look like little strips of mirrors but there is sprout and due to the synthetic fingerboard it can't be fixed with acclimation or oil. The action is high and there are buzzes and dead spots but the nut and saddle are graphite and if I lower the action I will just get more buzzing. It has a truss rod. I would not want to file the frets and ruin the mirror finish and they might be harder than the file anyway. In a couple of hours, I went through all the lessons in the phone app. Nothing for me to learn. Then I went to the song library and found it limited and mostly inaccurate. I don't know if I got a lemon or not but I don't like it. As for the lights, since it is so small, it sits very vertically in your lap so you can't see the led lights unless you lean over. I don't like playing sitting down, I like to stand up but they were too cheap to include even a junky strap. The case is great with lots of strong padding and a neck belt and a pocket to hold the combination stand that it comes with which is a guitar stand, the charging stand, and a phone holder to run the app.

Sorry to hear. Probably inconsistent QC, as is not uncommon.

At the price point and aimed at entry level, adding the technology I am not surprised the guitar itself is not great.
But, if the app and the song library were good / extensive I could see how intermediate or advanced players could use this to quickly learn the songs and then actually play them on a better guitar.

If viewing this from a beginner standpoint, is the guitar playable enough or more of a hinderance?
I cant play to my (limited) ability seated either.

Still reminds me of a cat chasing a laser pointer.

Lol, I like the cat thing! I think a beginner can get by with it. It is not like one of those that hurts to play. They say that now that all the orders are shipped they will devote their resources to the app now. I found it limiting and the songs I tried used simplified chords so a beginner could be playing a recognizable tune pretty quickly. I was harder to judge without a strap and all my guitars have dedicated ones and most have locks so I had to wait a few days to get one in the mail. I always stand when I play, I don't like sitting to play. That made a big difference in the playability for me, your mileage will vary though. I guess I would recommend the cheaper one to a beginner or anyone wanting one. It has electronics like a tuner and pickup and a fuller body. Look up the company that makes them, Kepma and you will be impressed. And your theory was exactly what I was thinking. I thought I might learn something new and apply it on a different guitar, but, there was nothing for me to learn there. Hopefully, it will change but it will stay in the case for now.

I can see where a guitar like the Poputar or the Fretlight would be a leg up for a beginner that wants to get the basics down quickly. That being said, even with all the technological advances, I would rather keep it old school and learn with my ears. Other folks mileage will definitely vary, but I’m a dinosaur! Lol
