Thats really awesome! Keeping it straight up and classic in an ocean of trendy posers! I never fit into that myself back in my highschool days when the Nu Metal thing was crawling all over the entire scene. Everybody else was rocking JNCO jeans, backwards caps, talking up Mesa Dual Rectifiers and 7 strings. Meanwhile, i was wearing Levis, ACDC t shirts and playing an SG with a Marshall at that exact same time. I never fit in and still dont lolSeparated at birth, eh?
It was really funny that day. I forget the name of the band that was playing after us (headliner), but I was having a great day hanging with their bass player and drummer. They were hot tickets, and we were having a great time drinking beer and shooting the breeze during the entire event. After we were done, they complimented us on our set. We were the odd duck that day as far as genres were concerned. They also seemed a bit more real than some of the people I met that day.
Those two guys said to me, that out of everyone that played that day my guitar sound was way over the top, and really great. They said their guitar player kept asking them if he sounded that good, and clear. They were all surprised how clean of a sound I had and tried being polite to him, and said "sure." We were the only non nu-metal band that day. Probably the only band in standard tuning, and I was the only Gibson and Marshall player that day. Granted, my '79 JMP is a great sounding amp (and '69 SG a great guitar). At the time, it still had a very mixed bag of tubes in it (literally), but still sounded amazing. Since were were playing outdoors, I could crank it up louder than normal. So, as we were chatting, I asked "does he use a Mesa and PRS?" "Yeah! How did you know?" was their reply. "Lucky guess" was my answer. Even though we walked a very fine line between punk and stoner before stoner, I was always fixated with good guitar sounds (to make up for lack of ability at times). And most important, making it sound good opposite the bass player (he would often overplay stuff). Talking to a few people later in the day, they all said "everyone seems to be too cool to admit it now, but tomorrow you'll probably be their favorite band they saw today."

Lol i wish i could grow a good mane like that. But im cursed with Beavis hair: it grows up and thick, but never downI'll give you one guess as to who's hair was the longest at that venue that day.

At 62 mine is starting to thin down a bit, but it won’t get as long as SG John’s.Lol i wish i could grow a good mane like that. But im cursed with Beavis hair: it grows up and thick, but never down![]()
I actually started balding about 11 years ago believe it or not lol it sucked royal ass. Guess it was stress related with buying a house while money was tight. Wife pointed out that my hair line was looking like Jack Nicholson so i got on the Rogaine for a little bit and amazingly, it grew back. I wasnt ready to rock a Kojak lmaoAt 62 mine is starting to thin down a bit, but it won’t get as long as SG John’s.
I am willing to bet you guys killed it that day John.
Cheers
I used to always tell my sons, you don’t have to worry about losing your hair ha ha .
