Revisiting Ace Of Spades:

Inspector #20

Ambassador of Tone
Fallen Star
Country flag
I originally recorded this in May of 2018. Tonight, since we were already in the studio, I decided to re track the vocals and see if I could get them a little better than the older version. Vocals were done in a single take, two stereo tracks, mixed left & right at 50% with light reverb added only to the left channel.

Here's the original version I did in May of 2018:

VON - HERNDON ACE - OF - SPADES MIX2A 07192018 REMIXED

And here's the vocals I re-tracked tonight:

ACE OF SPADES - MOTÖRHEAD COVER

Awesome, love that song. Truthfully if i was listening to this on the radio or somethin id be thinkin it was Motorhead. Great job Robert.

LOL! Thank you, JohnnyGoo, as we have incorporated the song, I seem to just naturally make it sound more like Lemmy every time we do it and people go absolutely wild for this song. I don't know of many bands who cover it....

Man, you seriously nailed the vocals! Great playing too.

I hear missed notes and phrases that are not quite right, us my general lack of smoothness...it all just jumps out at me...
There isnt a time that i have recorded anything that i havent listened to it over and go " Ugh my god, screwed this part up, wrong note here, flubbed that". The damn recording doesnt lie and doesnt hide; well it does but im too stupid to use protools but thats besides the point lmao. But what youve done sounds great to my ears and who the hell am i to critique anyone else anyways? Lol

I'm always reaching...pushing, ya know??? Just know it could be better....

I think my greatest wish would be that I could become a "smoother," player. No matter how much effort I put into becomming smoother, the old Neanderthal just comes out and takes over.

Theres nothing wrong in being your own worst critic, hell i think thats what drives you to be better and we all need that. If you become complacent and content, you become stale and stagnant. No one has ever truly mastered the guitar no matter how legendary and great they are: there's always something you're lacking and need to improve but that's also your will and motivation.

Full disclosure: that's why i decided to begin recording myself. Not for a self inflated ego boost but quite the contrary. I wanted to see and hear myself and pinpoint mistakes i knew where there but in my head at the time, i couldnt notice. I think it sounds wonderful in the moment but upon review, i see how bad it really is. If i posted it to the public, it wasnt to feel better ( though i always appreciate positive compliments), it was actually almost masochistic and secretively wanting to hear someone else notice the same mistakes i made

At the same time however, when i listen to someone else play, its almost like im taking mental notes and seeking out any little thing in their playing that i can go " Why the hell didnt i think of that?" Or go " man, that was really cool, i should try that out and see how it works!"

Kinda bizarre I know but honest and sincere lol

That's the best approach!!!

I always go back and listen to my isolated tracks. That helps me to figure out what I can do better.
