Talk me out of it??

Slash guitar NO why it's just a LPS with A2 pickups and a decal why pay a extra $1000.00 for that.

If it was me I would save up for this guitar

Back in 2002 I had the Gibson Custom Shop copy my 1960 LPS V-1 guitar the neck is exact to the original
every time I play the Custom Shop copy it sounds better in 2002 it was $3850.00 the extras were Flitch matched top and Brazilian rosewood finger board
the burst bucker pickups sounded like A$$ installed JM Rolph pickups fixed.
I play the Custom Shop RO 99% of the time now.

It's pretty but they just don't light my fire - nothing wrong with them but I have never picked one up and thought to myself "that's worth the money." I still dig the Slash (except for the stupid logo). It's $500 more than a '50's Standard and for that you get a much nicer figured top, a slightly beefier neck, a set of pickups that to my ear are possibly the best Gibson has put in a USA model, and these are consistently about a pound lighter than the '50's and '60's Standards, pretty much in the same weight range as the CS guitars. Oh, and it comes in what I personally think is the most badass finish Gibson has ever done, including my beloved Silverburst.

Gball, I sure wish you didn't live so far away. I would love to have you check out all my guitars ( even my lowly EPI LP with T Tops)
The funny part for me is for every different instrument, I hear and get the sensation of something different, and many times the experience is like a fresh surprise to me when I pick up any one of my favorites in my collection.

Smitty got to spend a day doing this, I felt honored to have his more skilled hands play and make nice music as we took turns checking out one another's guitars, his pedal board and my 4 Holer.

Next time I am in the area visiting family I will hit you up brother.

You have just made the best list of reasons for you to go right out and get that guitar! You know you want to and I don't see any regrets...except maybe one Firebird...

Chris, I love the 'birds. And I love the SGs. They just don't seem to get any play time - when I do play them it's more or less me talking myself out of playing one of the Les Pauls, not so much me being really excited to play one of them.

I completely understand. I think you should just go for that Slash LP. Do what's going to make you happy!

What finish are you looking for? Guy's got one on sale on TGP for $2350 Shipped. I know you are a hands
on and try before you buy person, but that's a good deal of savings...

Thanks, that's cool, but I do want to play it first - I checked one out a couple weeks ago and it was killer but not the color I want, which has got to be the Anaconda Burst:

So, went to check out the Slash again and while I was there fell in love with a Goldtop Standard, and left with it. It was about the same weight as the Slash (maybe a few ounces more if you were being anal) and actually had an even bigger neck. Flawless in every way, so I couldn't resist. Will drop a pic when I have a chance.

Here it is, sorry for the crappy pic, just snapped a quick one in the middle of moving. Haven't really even had a chance to put it through it's paces yet but the neck is one of the best I have ever had in my hand, so pretty happy (and I have been wanting a Gold Top for a long, long time)

Sweet, It looks great! How does it sound?

In the total of 5 minutes I have played it, pretty amazing. The Burstbuckers are sweet, and different enough from the pickups in my other 'pauls to make it unique.

And this is the second new Les Paul I have bought since the demise of Hank J, and I gotta say the new team is absolutely killing it. I'd happily put the quality and playability of these new guitars up against anything at any price. Best guitars, overall, that Gibson has ever built, and I include all eras in that statement despite the prevalent myths.
