Saw a couple of threads on The Gear Page a couple of weeks ago about Gary Clark Jr.s custom shop 3 P90 SG.
Upon searching the internet for more information on such a mythical beast the conclusion seems to be that it was indeed the only 3 P90 SG in existance. This just cant be... The world needs more of these.
So in a giving and humanitarian gesture I just added one more to the population.
I had to. It was meant to be.
It's the SG that Gibson never made. Big guard, P90's, witch hats. This thing has 60's written all over it..

Seeing that I had already routed this body from humbuckers to P90's for a previous project, ( it started life as an SGJ) it was only a matter of getting all that pesky wood out in the middle of the way.

Then I made a base for the P90's to mount to. The base is stair stepped, bridge pup is highest neck is lowest.
With the pickups mounted into the wood I don't have to have to deal with the P90 mounting bars and the associated hardware. Nothing's mounted to the pickguard.

Also gives the mounting screws a little more surface to grab onto. I'd hate to have a pickup mounting screw poke thru the back.
A piece of 5 ply blank pickguard material from StewMac and a side trip polarity checking my way thru my P90 drawer and I have come up with a nice set, with a reverse wound reverse polarity middle pickup.

Right now its wired with the neck & bridge pup and the 3 way switch sharing one volume & tone pot and the middle pup has it's own volume & tone pot.
This allows for all pickup positions to be available, with N&M and B&M being hum canceling, just like a Strat.

May try more ambitious wiring schemes like maybe phase reversal on each pup or a pair wired in series.
We'll see...

But for now, It's alive and this sexy beast is all mine...

So, your neck pickup is always "on". You just use its volume control to bring it online or not. Correct?

The middle is always on or always off or anywhere in between.
The neck & bridge are tied to one set of pots along with the 3 way switch. The middle is tied into the other set. Makes for useful blending so far.

Dave............Dave, Dave, Dave.........that is beyond "off the chain" man.........
:bow::bow::bow::bow::bow:

To take a "lowly SGJ" and create THAT BEASTIE........you are Da MAN!

Sounds pretty decent. The pups are all fairly low buck but all claim to be alnico 5.
One of the pickups still needs a hot paraffin bath. Pretty microphonic.
I mixed & matched a couple of sets to get the polarities I was looking for.
One set must have been potted, the other set most likely isn't potted.
I should have some time this weekend to tie up a couple of loose ends on it & get in some play time.

Wish I could click "like " 10 times on those pics Dave.......friggin awesome how you transformed that little scooter into a HOT ROD!
