I got more head! Whoops, I mean I got another head.

It was supposed to arrive Thursday, but got delayed by the snowstorm. I have been reading about the 1 watt builds and was about ready to go down that road when I realized I can't build a 1 watt amp for $299. Let alone have 2 channels with a foot switch, power reduction, reverb, a loop and mini in/out jacks. So, since I just made the last payment on my V earlier this month I decided to get a DSL1HR. It weighs about the same as a 12 pack and will become my travel head. I will bring the JCM 2500 and TSL100 home from the cabin. They are overkill up there and not fun to lug around.

I will post some clips later when I get a chance, but it does sound good on the ultra gain channel. The classic gain is a nice clean that gets a little hair on chords if you have the volume up very high. Not sure how I feel about that at the moment, but you can at least use all of the volume knob at home even through a 412. You have to yell over it like a loud stereo, but your ears won't bleed. On the .1 watt setting it doesn't even get moderately loud, but the tone is still good.

Just moved the amp over to my pine 412 slant cab with Greenbacks. It's pretty sweet. On ultra gain it does jcm 800 up to 10 o'clock, about 11 o'clock it is clean boosted 800 and then goes into more modern distortion above that. I run my 2203 clone with the gain maxed out and a Soul Food in front with the volume maxed and gain as low as it will go. This is what the DSL1HR sounds like when on 11 o'clock. Love it. And I can do this with the volume knob up at noon or 1-2.

1 watt tube amps are a blast. Since throwing mine together it's pretty well all I've played through (at home) & always into a 4x12. Being able to rock out or play along with CD's at a quiet living room volume is priceless. Cheers

1 watt amps FOOGIN KILL for home/studio use.......

SORRY HUGE WATTAGE GUYS ---they actually DO ---Ive seen people spend more on ISO cabs so they could get "that sound" (and not blow their eardrums out) than ANY good 1 watt tuber amp costs ......................................

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?????????????????????????????????

Alright, this track is on classic gain channel with volume at 3 o'clock. Reverb is at 10, bass 12, middle and treble both just past 2. I can just barely speak very loudly over this. I am going to be using the Flying V on bridge pickup only for all of these demos to keep it simple. And yeah, I have vintage GE 12AX7 preamp tubes installed.

This track is with the volume maxed out on classic gain. Nothing else has been changed. Forgot to mention the V has an uncovered Burstbucker 3 in the lead position. Also, I'm playing through my Crate Blue Voodoo 412 with Celestion G12T-75 speakers. Recording with my phone on a chair 4 feet from the front of the cab.

Just an fyi- the classic gain channel sounds like ass with the stock preamp tubes. These vintage GE tubes really wake it up.
