OK URGENT Christmas shopping HELP NEEDED, Otherwise I would have put this elsewhere.

I'd say tickets to Toby's but you said their are no good shows. I hate musicals so I really can't judge if the shows are good or not. I see they have Spamalot scheduled for May.

I've been to that Toby's in Columbia twice and man is it a weird experience. People in the show serving you food and drinks. Just odd as hell.

WOW PAF welcome to our forum and DO you live anywhere near Columbia? Too Funny you went to Toby's. I may have gone there before with my dad and his one friend, and knew I would hate it. The show was called Mame, all I could think about was how all those artsy fartsy types pranced around up there, then served us food. No real appetite there.

All my Christmas shopping is done by August each year...

That's funny, Robert. Ya know how you get when a guitar is not intonated right or like when a guitar neck is too thin, That is me and SHOPPING.
And to have Covid make us walk around in masks just to window shop or pick stuff out comfortably.

Craziest thing is I can wear a dust mask and bust out stuff for hours on end in construction but to wear it in a public place is annoying.

Thanks! I was invited when the board started up through someone on ESG and haven't been around since then.

I'm a Baltimore County boy so I'm only 35 minutes or so away. My wife lived in Columbia when we started dating and I used to frequent that area a lot. I think we went to every restaurant there when we were dating lol. We went to Union Jack's a lot!

We saw Chicago and The Color Purple at Toby's. I give the performers all the credit in the world for what they do but damn if I just can't stand musicals. They just don't do it for me.

PAF, we must be related. I pretty much hate musicals. She took me to see the Nutcracker at the Hippodrome and I could not believe they hid the orchestra under the stage. To me, that would have been the part worth seeing. Hard to imagine we have another local member here, and from Balto County too. I grew up in Towson, Cockeysville, Carroll County and would only go to Columbia to Merriweather.

DonO, Chasfred, Gball who are in California or AZ, are all former Marylanders from Howard/ Balto county areas. Smitty P lives in Southern Md

PAF, where about in Baltimore County? I was born in Catonsville, not far from the High School. We used to sleigh ride on the farm that is now CCC. My parents moved to Westview Park when I was 10. I could watch the building of the 70 & 695 interchange from their place. Went to high school at Woodlawn. Did many a burnouts in that parking lot with my 68 BB Camaro. Moved to Philly in 1974 and then to CA in 1976.

Did someone bribe people to join this forum with the prospect of free Old Bay and Berger cookies? I grew up in the sticks in Essex. Amazingly I didn't suffer much brain damage and I can read and write! Ah. Memories!

To tell you the truth I forgot about this place until recently. I did a search on the interwebs about the pickup in an EB-0 bass and a thread from here popped up. I came back and saw this place was more lively than a few years back and recognized names from ESG.

It is lively alright, And for us who can't afford PAF's we like T Tops too!!!!!!!!!! Some of us even LOVE T Tops.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with Essex. There are really only 2 of us here who likely partake in the Berger Cookies of Old Bay on a semi regular basis. I would venture to guess, the other fellas who moved to the other side of the country might only get their Old Bay delacacies once in awhile as in when they make a return visit or something. Now you made me want some crab cakes.

I got me 4 cans of Old Bay. In the early 80’s me and another transplant paid $200 to have a bushel of live Chesapeake Bay crabs flown over night to LAX . We had a good old fashion crab fest on picnic tables on old newspapers !

What I really miss is a good Philly cheesesteak, (Pats) and Tastycakes.

Well Dono, I understand and I know a little about it being a Pat's of Philadephia thing, BUT with all the riots and turmoil in our country, I am choosing to stay out of cities. I barely was comfortable going to Baltimore to the Orioles or Ravens stadiums and then the George Floyd, Defund police, riot cuz you can mentality hit. SO, I am definitely not going to Philadephia, NY, LA, Minneapolis, Seattle, SF etc with a bulls eye on my back.

Now, if you want to talk about " an experience" kind of thing, I know what that means when it comes to food. I have talked about it here and mentioned how I remember my first " buffalo wings" experience the night before our Rush concert event at the Syracuse University in 1983. There is a restaurant called Varsity up there and my buddy got us all Buffalo Wings and all the trimmings, blue cheese dressing, carrots and celery mmmmmm.

Also, I looked up Philly cheesesteaks, Do they really make em with Cheese Whiz?

HAHA I just looked up Pats and Genos in Phila, and it reminded me of Maryland's renowned Cheese Steak joint,

Being from Essex, I am sure PAF knows this place. Going back likely 25+ years now, I had my first ever Captain Harvey's subs.
There was so much meat on it, I think I could barely eat a half of my first one when I was at my buddy's on Christmas eve when his uncle brought us all a huge bag full of them.

Last time I went there, they still grilled maybe 20 lbs of meat at a time in a huge pile and had lines out the door. Only I think Asians now run the place. It just seemed funny to see them running a sub shop in Dundalk.
