Who The heck does he think he is? One of the most perfect songs ever written, ruined!

Maybe he's trying to replace Covid19 for worst thing of 2020?

I am sorry if this post derails the intent of the thread and is not in the place I likely was going to devote to the event, but since Mike mentioned worst thing of 2020 to replace Covid 19,
I am sad to say, as of yesterday 12/18/2020, I learned of the passing of one of my longest and dearest friends. The news possibly could have been less awful had it turned out to be something like he had Covid, or a heart attack, cancer, or car accident, but when I was only told he had passed, I did my own research while waiting to hear any details.

When I googled my buddy, I found several stories that go like this. I cleaned up ( censored) some of the details to basically give the gist of the story without making private details out there for the whole world to see in here. Although it was a publicized story, I just feel better this way.

Man missing for three weeks found dead in Lake XXXXX

A man missing for three weeks was found dead by park rangers Saturday morning at a Pennsylvania Lake , according to the York County Coroner's Office.

( My Friend) , 56, of North Hopewell Township, was pronounced dead at 10:09 a.m. Saturday on the shoreline at Lake xxxxx, in Springfield Township.

( My Friend's) death was ruled a suicide, according to a news release.

Several water, air and K-9 teams initially searched for ( my friend) , who was first reported missing on Nov. 17.

Blue Hyundai Accent with New York plates was found in the Lake's parking lot on Nov. 17, and ( my friend) was last seen there at 9:38 p.m. that night, police have said.

The lot is near the Lake boat launch, police said.

( My friend's) body was found by park rangers, the coroner said in a news release.

There will be no autopsy.

WOW-- that is horrible news Chili -- so sorry for your loss

How Long had you known this fellow?
Do they expect foul play?

I won't continue discussion of the details here, except to say I may make it's own thread in our Fallen Heros section, and to say I truly can't figure out how he could have drowned himself, had no marks on him, as would be present if foul play had been inflicted on him, and I presume no means of weighing himself down in order to complete the job. I am totally dumbfounded and kind of in shock.

Thanks in advance to all of you who express your reactions. I will be ok, I just will likely forever wonder how it could have happened.
I posted a thread specifically for my buddy here.

Now for Bon Jovi, How do we feel about Phil X playing guitar for John, in concert sometimes?

I honestly have never heard Fairytale of New York before today, hadn't even heard of it. Regardless, I will gladly join in telling Mr. BJ to bite it. I would suggest banning his music from the forum, but it is an exercise in futility since no one would play it, other than for mockery. I guess he can't sell OUT when he was never IN - just a fake rocker poser

This quote right here for the win!

My condolences Chilli.

And yes, Jon Bon Jovi can bite it. I'm surprised you never heard it Ray. It's not really top 40 friendly with lines like "old slut on junk", so it's not surprising. Like any story, those lines are important for the telling of the tale. Would someone clean up Chaucer or any other classics? I know that Amazon has been cleaning up (editing) Orwell, Bradbury, and other authors. So, be careful where you buy your books. Especially kindle material. That stuff is being censored all the time.

That is the dumbest thing, to censor literature from decades ago, sometimes centuries even, because someone TODAY is offended by the choice of words. I dont know how that doeant violate the 1st Amendment honestly and if a few words irritate you, grow up and thicken your skin. We see and hear worse in our daily lives im sure and we're not falling apart as a society for it anytime soon

Yep. Literature and any kind of art reflects the times of its creation, just leave it alone. Censoring art is a slippery slope, it's the start of every dictatorship. They do it here too and it pisses me off to no end.

It was either The New York Times or Washington Post that exposed Amazon for changing contents of books written by Orwell, Bradbury, Vonnegut, and others who have written about dystopian futures. It's being done to actual books sold through them, so look for other sources (I buy from Bookshop: Buy books online. Support local bookstores.). But worse is the frequency it is done on Kindle platforms. Because you don't really own the book and are just reading off of a server(script), they are constantly changing content. It may even change while your reading the book, log off for the night, then pick it up again.

What does it matter to a group like Amazon other than the fact they can do that just to do it? Who do they think they're "shielding"? Its just writing the narrative because you want to control something in someone's life and it's utterly stupid

They don't want you to question anything, like the fact Jeff Bezos pays not a penny in taxes, screws his employees and vendors, and we're picking up the tab even though we think we're saving a couple of bucks by making him more wealthy and powerful. Change the content so you want to embrace Big Brother, not question and destroy him.

Between me and my wife, there are probably over 1000 books on about ten bookcase and other places around the house. Then about 600 LPs, 1000+ cds, boxes of cassettes, and other media. I don't trust hards drives, servers, and other digital content. My books, albums, and cds are mine. I know that I own them. If I want them on an ipod or something, I'll burn a copy. I don't have to pay a monthly fee to save to a cloud, and have them disappear if a server crashes or I don't pay my bill. My storage is "How much crap will my house allow?" Also need to make sure I have a functioning turntable and cd player.
