New body day

Just got this in from Warmoth. Mahogany back with roasted maple top. I was undecided on the controls when I ordered it so I didn't get any holes pre-drilled for anything. Right now I'm thinking 2 volumes, one tone, no switch.

Wet it down a bit to show the flames.

The neck will be a short scale conversion neck. Just not decided yet if I'm going to use the roasted maple neck I originally intended, (that's why I got the roasted maple top) or if I'm going to use my favorite Wenge with Ziricote fb neck because I really love that neck. I'll figure it out as I go.

Never been a Tele guy, just never vibed with them but that's going to look real nice!!!! Looking forward to seeing the completed outcome! :)

I'm not a Tele guy either, lol! I like the Tele body shape, but that's about it. The Warmoth bodies I have all have the forearm contour and belly cut and that makes them so comfortable to hold and play. I like Gibson Scale conversion necks so it really isn't a Tele at all.

Now I'm trying to figure out if I can stain the back and sides without having it bleed onto the maple top around the edges. I want to do just straight tru-oil on the top, but it I'm going to use the wenge neck I would want to make the back a dark brown (almost black) to match the neck.

Guys I'm basically fixing an expensive mistake here. My last build didn't work out for what I wanted for 2 reasons. #1. I should have gotten a full sized HB route for the neck pickup. That one I could fix pretty easily by enlarging the route with a dremel and any sloppiness would be hidden by the pickup ring, no problem. #2. Not so easy to fix, I screwed up bad by getting the recessed bridge. I know it's probably silly, but I hate how low the strings are to the body, I didn't know it would be that way with the TOM, but it is. It's not comfortable for me to play the type of stuff I like to play on this guitar with lots of palm muting. The new body is a do over with the TOM and Stopbar and angled neck pocket.

I'll probably use this one as a dedicated slide guitar or something down the road.

I mean it looks killer, and I bet it has an interesting tone with that mini bucker but I can see what you mean about the bridge feeling too low.

It will be straight tru-oil on the top, no burst. I might try staining the back and sides.
Rest of the body will be covered and finished in Tru-Oil?
The neck finish? I'm not familiar with the specs on wenge. Pourous like mahogany? Or dense like maple?
