December has been unusually darknthis far with heavy clouds and it looks likenit will continue.

I just read that most hours of sun, this far in December in Sweden, has been in Umea, a city north of the polar circle where the sun kind of sets in November and comes up in February. They've had a total of four houra of sun this far, four. Imagine how little the rest of us got.

And sadly, every day gets shorter from here until Dec 21 which will be the shortest. After that though, every day gets just a touch longer all the way onto June 21, the longest.

But a weird fact this first day of Winter this year: we will experience the Grand Conjunction which is when Jupiter and Saturn come closest together, appearing as a "Double Planet" or as its also known, the "Christmas Star". Last time that happened and was visible with the naked eye was 1227 A.D

I love astronomy, and I am also looking forward to seeing "The Christmas Star". Definitely a once in 45.097 lifetimes event.
