Thieves In Nice Neighborhoods:

We live in a nice area. One of our neighbors has a Ferrari F430 and most cars in the area are newer models.

We went up to see my parents for an early Christmas. About 12:30am Sunday, two dudes in a yellow 2000-2003 Mustang, pulled up, broke both door locks on YeloTruck and began breaking into the steering column...trying to steal the truck...right in our lighted driveway.

The entire event was captured on security cameras, but car had covered plates.

They didn't get it started, but I have a lot of damage to fix.

I still can't believe anyone would want to steal this truck...

SMH...

Theives broke the steering columns on two Astras, trying to force the steering locks, both parked on my own well lit driveway.
When i had just turned 18, i had this awful 89 Ford Escort hatchback which was my first car. Cheap and well dated by the time i got it but low miles and dependable. Anyways, a couple months after i got it, someone stole it right out of my folks' driveway because i kept a spare hidden in the console and i guess like an idiot i left it unlocked.

Police found it 3 days later in a ditch about 12 miles away. They took it offroading and balded all of the tires. Cost me like $120 to get it out of the police impound, another $500 for tires and a 4 wheel alignment and they still had the other key technically. Wiped me out financially because i had just started working.

Mine were fully covered, I got the book value for both. I learned at a very early age that fully comprehensive insurance is a must, though you only need third party cover by law.

i always have full comprehensive but never got what car costed, when i had crash they wanted to give me as little as possible and if i wanted more i had to prove my car was worth more than what they were offering, so lot of internets search finding same car similar milage.... i hate insurance companies they always try to milk you, they take money straight away and when you are due to be paid they take all the time in a world.

Aye, but it's better than the alternative. My insurance company paid more than one car was worth and promptly too. One of my cars was written off when it was hit by a stoned kid, without a licence, driving an uninsured car. His major misfortune was the collision pushed my car into my policeman neighbour's parked pride and joy Audi. Our insurance companies footed the bills, the kid did time, when he got out of hospital.

when i crash i crash proper i write of car. mind you here they write cars of almost for anything. one time i had crash an all i had was broken headlight and dented wing and they wrote off the car lol

worth crash i had was with my kid in car, he was 4 at that time.. made whole car spin full circle. my Volvo had lot less damage and that Vauxhall had whole side missing. still dont know how it happened :) likely my boy was ok and no injuries.

I'll tell you this, not owning a car any more saves me a hell of a lot of money. Tax, insurance, maintenance, MOTs, all just a horrid memory now. Plus, I don't have to worry if it will still be there when I wake up...
yeah it gets expensive especially when you run a cab, every week i have new problem lol. the car i used to drive till i stopped working still has a problem and needs service... im looking forward to when i dont have to spend all that money on car and i can spend on gear :)

Yeah, but a cab is an asset, a tool, you earn money with it. Hopefully, you turn a profit. A private car is just a liability, a veritable money pit.

Forever ago I had a 1977 Chevy Monza. Basically a Vega with a different body. Consequently, it rusted out in all the same places a Vega would. Got to the point I’d go to the store and never take the keys out. No one would ever steal that piece of junk..... and if they did, always figured they’d bring it back and have me arrested for leaving the keys in it.

So, how did that conversation go?

What about reporting for insurance services?

Prop 47.

Once that passed, all these low dollar crimes aren’t worth a cops time anymore. The perps just get released if caught. In 2017 we drove my wife’s Hybrid Honda Accord to the Bay Area to visit her brother and her parents. We stayed at her brothers house in a very upscale neighborhood (they sold that home last year for $2.3M). The day before we were ready to leave I put a plastic zipper bag with 2 pillows in it on the back seat of the car. Came out the next morning and found this.

Same thing, the cops said they wouldn’t come take a report, file one online! This was a Sunday and none of the mobile repair places were open. Finally got one there on Monday. Real nice guy, the owner, and one of his employees. He said he was a 1 truck company until the passage of prop 47. Now he’s got 5 trucks and was still expanding as car break ins skyrocketed.

I'm sorry to say that I told the Watch Commander that this was "Bullshit" that a public service agency, funded by tax dollars, cannot be bothered with proactive crime prevention.

Then I told him to run my driver's license (which still comes back to the police department for life.) I'm just really disappointed that the police agencies are not working in crime prevention these days...
