Well many of you know I am an R/C Pilot and Instructor. So a couple of weeks ago, MAAC which is the Model Aeronautics Association Canada, sent out a letter from the zone directors to the club executive boards stating that as of Jan 1st 2021 all Pilots and Instructors will have to have certification which must be put through Transport Canada. MAAC has a Committee that deals with Transport Canada, they work closely together so TC knows who we are and what the MAAC clubs do. Those of us who are Instructors will be Grandfathered in, as long as the Club you are in states you are an Instructor with them. So I thought I better check I know I am listed, but better double check. The end of the year is coming quickly. So had the Club President check it out. He said Norm I know you are in the system, I said yes I know but can you double check for me. There is new regulations that are coming forth Jan 1st, he said he wasn't aware of that, that Transport Canada was changing the regulations so he checked and I wasn't on the list. Good thing I checked, my Zone director whom I know very well Knew that I was a qualified Instructor, its on record. When you are a qualified Instructor it has to go through the executive board of the club. Some how this got changed or overlooked when issuing membership cards. Anyway to make a long story shorter I received a Call from MAAC headquarters on Monday, and the issue has been rectified. They will be sending me out this Friday a new Membership card with the right credentials which includes Instructor, Fixed wing Pilot. Sure am happy I checked this out.scan0007.jpg
 
Move to old school USA. We could fly RC planes and rockets to our heart's content. I never heard of anyone needing a license.

Of course it seems we are moving closer to the Canadians' rules it seems, because of drones etc.

She's been sitting in the Hangar for a few years now. I have been flying what I call the hot rods of the sky. I focus on the Planes that are fully aerobatic now. Like my Extra 260, Edge 540, Katana. These ones I have are in the classification As Giant. Giant consists of a wing span 72" or higher . My Extra is 78" the Edge is 80" and the Katana 80" wing span.scan0002.jpgscan0003.jpg
 
The thing is Chilli, there is much more involvement with electronics and sophistication of R/C aircraft today than years ago. Also learning the rules of flying in air space of full size aircraft. This is a serious hobby now a days. And it needs to be. The hobby has come along way from flying a small little plane in a park to the Giant scale planes we have today, my planes are 25% Scale to 30% Scale, I have friends that have some 40% size of full size. We fly at sanctioned fields. My membership card allows me to fly anywhere in the World that has a sanctioned field. We have $ 7,000 liability insurance each Pilot. Being a MAAC Member gets you insurance, magazine six times per year. MAAC is $100.00 per year and Club Memberships range from about $65- over $100.00 depending where you live.

Nice planes there Norm. Can ya post some pics of the transmittters? Mine are all pre 1991 when they changed frequencies here in the US. I gotta believe the new ones are highly computerized.
 
The bottom picture showing the DX7 , I mostly use now for my computer flight simulator. The DX8 is my main Transmitter
 
Do you have a plane that uses all 8 channels? I have a 7 channel one, but never had a plane that used all 7. A few used 6...

Yes, I am seeing this. Norm. They are huge.

I built model rockets until I realized it was more fun to shove a lady finger in the tail end of those solid fuel motors, light it, throw as hard as you can, and run like hell!

No telling which way that mother was going to go at about the speed of oh shucks!

Do you have a plane that uses all 8 channels? I have a 7 channel one, but never had a plane that used all 7. A few used 6...

So far I do not use all 8 channels , I usually use 5-6 channels, I like to have the option of extra channels just in case, I haven't put a smoke pump in yet, but at some point I might. Or a sliding canopy..

I used to build rockets too.
One time we launched a hamster into space. I'm not sure he was pleased with that...

good job you checked it bro, in the end, it does not matter who knows what, what matters is what's on the system and you know that. im glad its all sorted, now take a flight and come and see me :) can those planes fly long distances?
 
This is my #1 Passion, I am coming into my 28th year of being in this great hobby. I have met lots of people throughout the years and made some good friends. Its always great to see the fellas that are in their late seventies and eighties still making it out to fly and tell some good stories from the past. And also to see the new generation of young Pilots starting out. There is great camaraderie between the younger and older Pilots, hope I can continue in this hobby for many years to come.

I flew many Estes rockets as a young teen. Me an my buds would fly em a few times a month in a good size field (6 baseball diamonds) that was in walking distance. So one day I bought the smallest rocket (for 50 cents) and fitted it with the largest motor. When I pushed the home made ignition button. I only saw it for about 2 feet, no kidding. It just seemed to disappear. None of us saw it rise and of corse we never found it.

I never could afford it as a kid, but once I moved to CA and got a real job I bought the big dog rocket, the Saturn V. Last flew in 1979 and still have it in the family room.
