powertubes............does it matter?

Dont cheat -- let the video run in a window while your on another window and see if you can tell when he switches-----
then go back and WATCH when he switches.....................

Before I watch any or all of the previously posted videos, I'll say this: IMO... Real NOS tubes are of much better quality and will last longer than the modern stuff that's being made in at least the last 20 years. And... Video demos can't completely provide the experience of actually feeling the organic response of an amp and the subtle nuances of different tubes.

And now it's time to watch those videos...

So true.

I had purchased a vintage Vibrolux around 2002 +/-, emailed a tube vendor, got recommendations etc..

He talked me into trying out some vintage RCA tubes for in the power section. They were in JAN boxes, true milspec.

Have had this amp in our rehearsal room since then, almost twenty years, have been through more than a few preamp tubes.

Never, I mean, never have even thought those tubes were even getting weaker.

It makes sense, they were designed to run 24-7 in military gear and were tougher than nails.

Many hours on them, one of my bandmates took over the amp for a couple of years, still sounds great never have let me down. But, for the price of admission I'd expect nothing less.

Kinda expensive to begin with, but not once you prorate them. Buy once, cry once in the tube world.

Sound wise, sound great to me, but not much different than the originals, so nice to not worry about re-tubing though.

I swapped 4 different tubes in and out of the lil sexy l;ast night and ..................
1 was some russian thing with an adaptor @CabanaBoy laid on me to try out---
1 was a SOLIDSTATE TUBE (yep) jetCity RetroValve

an Egnater 12ax7
and a JJ's 12 Ax7

all sounded "different" my preference were the russian contraption and the SS retrovalve
less ice pickish than the other 2
but I prefer low grind and chug to squealy twiddlie dee

Have been wanting to try out one of those s.s. rectifier replacements.

They go in the rectifier tube spot, turns the amp into a s.s. rectified amp, wondering if that would make my JTM45 more of a 1987 type amp. No sag, quicker on the pick attack.

Someday I will get the tools, and learn how to bias my amps. Then I am intending to try this expieriment.

After watching the 3 videos, and listening & watching through the tv, I really don't hear a difference. The video with the Metroplex that uses the revamping device that takes the "human inconsistencies" out of the equation, was a more controlled process for demo purposes.

These demos should have been done with playing through a clean signal too.

The tubes do sound different, especially when pushed into overdrive. But this test will never show you.
This test never pushes the power tubes beyond 1-2 watts !
No wonder you don't hear any difference.
It's the wrong kind of test to derive any difference.
You are just listening to a bunch of preamp distortion....and all the major differences are lost because of the wrong test method.

three flavors..............

I believe there was a thread on these before. I never got to say it before but, these are failed technology. Does anybody make these anymore? Seems that after 2015, this stuff dissapeared.

First time I heard of solid state tubes was at the '09 Winter NAMM show. The designer (I can't remember his name!) had a small booth there, and I became very interested. The designer explained that he was trying to get the industry more onboard with this stuff, and it should be widely available by 2010. Well, AFAIK, there was nothing. Then around 2012, I noticed that Jet City was selling something very similar. This might have been the same technology. Anyways, it's been a big fail unfortunately.

well I dont own stock in the things or nothing-- but the thing works........and it effects tone....negatively? I dont think so-- others might
now will it last as long as a tube (or longer?) who knows...will it harm or help the overall amp?? dunno.....

Sysco, Id say I dont think the "technology" failed --- as many in the musical equipment world would admit the FAILURE is more of the public TO ACCEPT CHANGE (everything has to be a 59 Gibson Les paul or its crap) mind set...

OH IF NOT TUBE ITS PURE :poo: AND YOU CANT RECORD OR GO ON STAGE WITH IT ---- Im so sick of that bull:poo: I could PUKE ---

hundreds of pros thousands of recordings and LOADS OF GOOD MUSIC live and recorded over DECADES have been made on "non cork sniffing approved" gear period

Perhaps a woman can better 'esplain? (at least its more fun watching her explain lol )

hop 15 min in....she reveals her "amp" ---

Ive noticed that brands often dont dictate different tones in power tubes, unless you can find some old stock vintage tubes and even then its 50/50. Biggest differences are reliability and changing the power output. But power tube sizes on the other hand, do give off different characteristics
