What's cooking

Very nice! That soup looks like a great way to warm up. Almost looks like a chili, actually. I'll bet it's tasty!

I have no plans for cooking tonight, but I want to take a shot at making carnitas....got a big pork roast in the freezer I'll use, just need to track down an authentic recipe that sounds good. I'll know it when I find it.

I didn't get pics but tonight's leftovers consisted of hot Italian sausage with grilled peppers & onions that we had a day or so ago, and a few pieces of bacon from the Saturday French Toast & bacon feast, with a few slices of Boars Head London Broil roast beef, heated in leftover au jus.
This was all placed lovingly on a hoagie roll and the contents were dipped in the remaining au jus with each and every bite.

It was delightful.

The wife picked about 50 pounds of apples from 2 trees at our Lakeside place a few days ago before the first snowstorm. We had apple chicken done in the crock pot along with apple fritters last night. She made some apple butter and a apple vodka drink (not for me). Had apple fritters for breakfast today. The pic is about 30 pounds of apples remaining.

Steaks here tonight. Fresh organic green beans, and nice Japanese sweet potatoes, both with good butter.

Recently switched to Organic Valley cultured sweet butter. Pricey but delicious - it reminds me of the butter in Europe.
Butter always makes things better, but this stuff is especially wonderful.

I'd tried imports from Ireland & Finland. They were good but didn't live up to my memories of the butter in Austria and France.

My father and brother are both apple growers. Fuji, Gala, Honeycrisp...among other row crops and seed crops.

My point is, I've eaten so many apples in my life that I've become kinda sick of them.

One of my favorite things in life is still a fresh apple pie though! That's tough to beat!

For an interesting twist someday, consider making stuffed apples, much like the same way a stuffed pepper would be done....

Well now that we own a few apple trees I’m sure the wife will be doing lots of apple related food for as far as I can see into the future. We’re talking at least 100 pounds of apples each season.

I no longer have the pic but my favorite way of doing a whole chicken on the grill, is the beer can method, and the seasoning’s I like to rub all over it are these 2 plus pepper and some garlicimage.jpgimage.jpg

Nice. I turned my son on to tajin last Winter.
It's become sort of a tradition for me to gift him a new seasoning every Christmas.
The year before that it was smoked paprika.
Just ordered some ancho powder for this season.

Dog food -- here is HALF the pack watching me (Odin was asleep on the couch along with the Chihuahuas) cook up a mess of brown rice and "scraps" for the critters---
