New Mod: Head re-tolex

The STUPIDEST thing i ever did in my life was letting a 1996 model Peavey 5150 head that i paid a measly $300 for, go to a "friend" for $250 because i felt sorry for his bullshit sad story. Within 2 months he said someone broke into his house and robbed him, yet never took any of the guns or cash he had lying around. He pawned it because he had a gold digger he was trying to keep happy and i wouldve easily bought it back at face value.

Why did i sell relent and sell it after his sad story of needing an amp? Because the Tolex was gouged like Freddy Kruger handled it but it was perfect elsewhere. I havent sold a thing since and i regret that daily. Wish to god I did what you're doing here

Killer "pickguard art" on the SG. I have never heard of DST.
Thanks. It’s a John Cipollina (Quicksilver Messenger Service) tribute SG made by a friend in Ireland. He goes by Javamagic on the old ETSG forum.

As for DST Engineering, they were a custom amp maker in Beverly, MA. The maker of the amps, Bob Detorre also did a good repair and modding business as well. He retired a few years ago. Jeff Swanson, the other partner (Swanson Custom Cabinets), still makes really nice amplifier cabinets.

I have a few of their amps, as I live not far from them and have known them for a while.

John cipollina SG: now theres a cool, forgotten hero! I remember reading an interview of Gary Duncan in Guitar Player years and years ago about their history and John's SG.

That is super cool!

Ok...let me get this project back on track before it gets further off the rails!

Go to the link below and pick your rug size. You certainly can find a size that will give you all of the red shag you need to cover the head.

(Whew...that was a close one!)

That really ties the room together.

my last cabinet rebuild was this..............................
Banditt.jpg

the wood was "pre white" washed at home depot..........my intention was to tolex or paint it .........but --- uhm well its back together and works .....so .....

oh I bought a PEAVEY handle as well.... that is in a drawer someplace.....its not GOING anywhere so "F" the handle and other amps sit on the top easier WITHOUT the handle....

It was not built to travel.......or impress......it was built to work and it does that in SPADES

Tonight was go time for the new cover. Amazon finally delivered my last bits and I was off and running.

Since the Tolex roll was too short to run all the way around the head, I have to put in two seams. Not my favorite part.

I had cut down the full roll length wise to and pieced in this bottom part. I have blue tape on the seam to hold it while the glue sets.

The head is wrapped and the glue is curing tonight. I put on the hardware and just placed the head in to see how it's coming out. I have blue tape on the edges to keep it in place tonight.

I have a new logo getting made to match the cabs I have which will be the final piece to the puzzle. I'm thinking I need some different color knobs for the two blue "GAIN" pots.
