Gibson LPJ Thoughts

Anyone have one of these? Are they any good?

I am considering a used 2014 right now with '61 zebra p'ups and looking for some input from you fine folks.

For the record I already have 2 Epi LP Standards. One is a 1997 and is fully stock. The other is a 2012 with new wiring and Seymour Duncan p'ups. How would these compare to an LPJ?

I also have a Warmoth LP that is killer. Please see my avatar.

Any thoughts, opinions or feelings would be very much appreciated.

I have a 2013 and like it very much. It has 490/498 PUs. The 61s are a little milder. Plekked nut and frets make it play like a dream.

I really like them. They have a great stripped-down vibe and the pickups are killer. If a good deal I would jump on it hard.

that's your answer then... next time you won't have to wonder. The "J"
models are excellent player's guitars, low prices, no famous Gibson deep gloss
or binding (or nibs!!!), no inlays, no bling, just Rock an Roll Hootchie Coo...
And that's all you need to make great music. The rest is up to you.

But you have to play it. That's how you know. If you can't play it before you
buy it, pass it by. I know, I know... most poor schmoes think that they have to buy
online, unseen and unplayed. That's why there's so much angst and chagrin on fora
like this one. How many long tedious threads have we seen where somebody ordered
a guitar online, unplayed and unseen, and then had to find fault with it after it arrived?

Lots of threads... lots of unnecessary angst and woe. Just go where they sell them and
play as many as they'll let you. Buy the one that comes alive in your hands. Make it a personal
quest. If none rings your bell, go away and keep searching. There are so many great guitars
out there... the ideal one for you is waiting to be discovered.

But you can't do that online. (unless you're like me, and know exactly what you want and
how to spot it when it shows up). I've had three good experiences ordering guitars online,
but would NOT recommend this to others.

Good advice....There are some real problems with modern Gibson's...they are NOT like the Gibson's of yesterday....Play them until you find the one....
