Anyone play pedal steel???

My current situation has caused me to change direction after 50 years of playing and enjoyment.
I can't play a guitar as we know it anymore.
BUT, I've been building lap steels for a while, play them, and want to delve into the world of pedal steel sonic goodness.
I'm a big fan of sacred steel and am inspired by the tone, sustain and all around dynamics of pedal steel.
Robert Randolph, Aubrey Ghent, and the Lee Boys, have all inspired me, especially after seeing the Lee Boys and Aubrey Ghent live.

So I'm looking for guidance, direction, or at least a fukin' atta boy.

Most of my guitars and amps are up for grabs. Some have been spoken for, and or left the building....
BUT, I won't ship.
If one is desired, you have to come to the swamp, have lunch with eSGEe & I and pick it up.
We may even stick you with the tab, but like a sore pecker, the deals can't be beat... :pound-hand:

So back to the point, iffin' anyone has a pedal steel that they want shed of, let me know.
 
Don't know of a pedal steel player personally, at least anymore, or even know of one in the area around here (I though I am sure there is). Go for the new adventure, man - you'll probably be doing something a lot of us here have only mused about type thing.
 
No pedal steels for me, just lap steel. You don't really need the pedals though. Just tilt the slide to get minors. Depending on the tuning you use, you can get minors, sixths, sevenths, and diminished chords just picking individual strings or slanting the steel.

I've built quite a few lapsteels before, so that will most likely be the road I go down for starters.
A double lap, like John's above :love: would be a good plan, able to accommodate two different tunings.
Hmmm, a plan my be forming.

Yes, very shexy indeed & suitable for a one handed gimp such as myself.
It makes perfect sense, my right hand is where I've been working on fingerstyle picking and syncopation for years.
A lap steel will be able to take advantage of this acquired skill set.
My left hand only has to hold a tone bar, which I believe I can now do.

Time to order a nice Shubb tone bar.

I even have an axe to practice on...

I was fondling and checking that out in person - it's way too cool in person.
