Don't really need it, but wanted it... HNNS2D!

With some inspiration (aka GAS!) from eESGe's recent thread on the Rocktron Hush, I just got me a new BOSS NS-2 Noise Suppressor. I decided to go with the BOSS after coming across an overwhelming amount of positive reviews. And, I've always have appreciated the quality and pricing of BOSS products.

Not surprised the pedal does what it's suppose to do. However, I am very surprised in how well it does it! Bravo BOSS... (y). I'm new to these type of pedals, so properly made connections on the NS-2 is very interesting. If using other fx pedals:

Guitar > NS-2 Input

NS-2 Send > Tuner and Noisy pedals

Tuner and Noisy pedals > NS-2 Return

NS-2 Output > Any Time-Based fx pedals > Amp

Or, the time-based fx pedals can be left connected to the amp's fx loop if available.

I haven't tried it yet but hopefully my germanium based fuzz's and treble boosters play nice after the NS-2. If this BOSS pedal has the typical BOSS buffer circuit then there might be a problem...

The Boss is Boss...

Crank up the threshold...last pedal in the chain at amp front...

I run my Treble Booster to tuner to wah, and on to the NS2 with the rest of my dirt in the loop of the NS2...works great for me. Yes...typical Boss buffer.

Congrats, and yes BOSS is always priced right and built like a brick :poo: house.

I've never been able to get a noise gate/suppressor to work right for me (I was trying my board with a EHX Silencer). I play with a fair amount of gain, but I also rely on pretty extreme dynamics and when I have gotten decent results at full-boil I have always had gating issues when I roll the guitar volume back to, say 2 or 3. Maybe there is a balance in there somewhere but it seemed like a struggle and frankly I learned so many years ago to control noise and feedback that its like second nature at this point.

I think the x-pattern if for amps with no fx loop.

I thought the "X" pattern was a just a variation on the usual 4-cable method, using the loop, but employing the noise suppressor in front of everything, like this:

At least that's how I tried it with the EXH one I was using.

Now I only use delay and looper in the effects loop (when I am using a looper, otherwise its only the delay). After experimenting a bunch I decided I prefer the CE-5 chorus after dirt but in front of the amp, not in the loop. I I like the PH-3 in front of the dirt.

I also built a BCB-30 pedalboard with just a BD-2w, CE-2w and DM-2w, and they all go in front of the amp, analog old-school style.

Is there a link to a page where I can create a mock-up of my board???
