30 Years Ago Today... SRV R.I.P.

I know that with some of y'all, SRV is not your cup of tea. But to me, he was my number one. A lot of my feelings comes from the fact that I was very fortunate to see him and his Double Trouble band perform live in 1984. In a nutshell: A very spiritual awakening for me. I miss him dearly, and to this day it's very hard for me to watch videos of him without getting all goofy about it. R.I.P. Mr Stephen Ray Vaughan...

In the late 80s, I used to go to these record stores in Philly called Sound of Music. They had records for half the price of other stores. They've been gone for years. I bought one of his albums on impulse and was hooked. I own his discography and keep a few CDs in the car. He's gone. There will be no more new music, but he is a sentimental favorite and will remain on my "play list" forever. I remember that day he died. I heard about it on the radio. I was shocked. Like so many greats, he was taken too early.

RIP Stevie...

there was a WHOLE LOT OF TONE in that dude

You guys will hate me for saying this but I never had much of a taste for his tone - that "Texas Blues" thing always seemed a bit too derivative of certain other people who happened to be his idols. What drew me to him was his phenomenal playing and the passion that he sang with, but I always kinda wished he would trade the Strat for a Les Paul and slide a Soldano into his backline.

Like Gary Moore? ... :dood:

I remember when it happened very clearly. A few days before, my friend, a memorabilia dealer, let me play a guitar he got signed by Stevie at the MSG concert with Clapton. I felt unworthy, but did not miss the opportunity to tickle it. I felt so privileged. Then he was gone. So young, he had just overcome his demons, and had so much to offer. He will hold a special place in my heart forever.

Man, i listen to Lets Dance by David Bowie, what playing.. anytime he comes on TV am glued..will pull the strat out tonite & dime the Super Reverb in his honor

in fact. next song is in Reaper ready for guitars & .strat going on..its been awhile..

will do it on his Brothers type w/tex mex

I read his biography on my last work trip. Some bits in there affected me a bit more deeply than I'd care to admit publicly. Never really cared for In Step that much before (it sounds a bit modern for me) but since reading the book I haven't really listened to any other albums by him.

This may sound odd, but I don’t remember listening to him when he was alive. But about 20 years ago, playing with some friends who turned me on to him. I missed out on a lot. What a great talent. Read an article by Clapton that said Stevie just oozed the music and tone, he was in awe of him. What an ultimate compliment.
