The Kemper Thread:

I work in a recording stuio. Half of the recordings i hear people raving over, claiming some 'vintage' Marshall, is actually an Amp Farm model in Pro Tools.

I've seen countless vintage amp gurus lose the bet, over and over, claiming the Amp Farm model is the real deal.

This experience alone has got me thinking about the Kemper.

Why lug a 1985 Jackson 4x12 and a 60 pound amp, plus a 15 pound pedalboard and 100 feet of cable, for the sake of silly-ass nostalgia???

I have been trying to nail the John Mayer tone in that "Belief solo" thread. I finally got very close. How? I found a profile of the actual amp used on that song on that live recording and show. It still had Mayer's marks on the control knobs when it was profiled. That made it pretty easy!

Profile this:

OK, so I have never tried to get a Gary Moore tone with the Kemper before. I did a Google search for "gary moore kemper profile" and found this user profile FOR FREE on the rig exchange, and downloaded it. There is no processing on this clip - I just downloaded the profile and played. Forgive the poor attempt at this riff as I did not know that either, I just played a facsimile of it from memory.

That's so close to his "Still Got The Blues" tone....and I have worked my ass off to re-create it with a DSL40C and a 15 pound pedal board....Nice work!!!!

In comparison, listen how monaural and one-dimensional the Friedmann sounds in comparison. My DSL-40C has more articulation.

Totally turned off by the trying to be sexy approach...and much more impressed by Strauss's jogging outfit and keeping the focus on her skills...

Robert, you are welcome to come try a Kemper here. I have the non powered head and floorboard controller with an expression pedal and play it through a FRFR 200 watt Headrush. I also have a Crown power amp that can drive my Kemper Kabinet. And just this morning I purchased the Camplifier SHP which is a 280 watt stero power amp that mounts Into the Kemper head. It’s overwhelming the number of profiles available.

I just got called and asked to fill in (on an emergency basis) up in Crestline on Sunday.
