Preppers

I was the chicken executioner when I was a kid. An old stump with two nails to put the neck in. My cousin and I would trade off. One held the feet and the other swung the axe. I think we did about 100 at the end of every July.

I learned to can vegetables and jams when I was a kid. This is the first year I didn‘t start a vegetable garden, as we‘re doing a lot of work on the house and property. Hopefully next year, I can start a new one. I also grow hops, and know how to brew beer.

I‘m down to about 15 bottles of wine and five bottles of Champagne, and about fifty bottles of hard liquor.

Damn, running low.

My old man was i the army so I learned from him. I always wanted to be a boy scout when I was a kid but never got to. I remember chasing the fryer chickens around as a little kid after there heads were off. The smell of scolding the chickens is somthing i will never forget. We also had layers for eggs, theres nothing like cracking an egg open and dropping a little bird in the pan.

For the past 7 days I've been curing pork belly. Rinsed it off last night and its in the fridge to dry for 24hr then ill smoke it tonight when its about 50° outside. Then let rest till tomorrow and slice. I payed $40 for the 10lbs and will be getting another 10lbs this week i figure $80 fo 20lbs and it will be enough for a years worth of beacon.

There is a differance in chickens for eggs. You have the fryers that are pure white and non reproductive then layers that are a little tougher meat if you butcher for food

heres what my canned food storage is looking like at this point. Chilly, stews, jams, fruit, pickeled foods and so on. Will get stuff today to make about 4 gal of salsa to get through the year. I really like to cook big if going to cook so somthing needs to be done with it so it doesn't go bad.20200731_174052.jpg

The cats and I could probably go about 3 months on what is here.

After that, eat the neighbors.
