What Are Friends For??? - The Unintentional Creation of the'59 Gibson Les Paul Stage Guitar:

A little bit off topic.....I have a pet squirrel. No joke. Wife's fault.

He's actually a pretty cool little dude.

He's called FuzzButt.
They are cool -- we have rescued and rehabed several over the years--
Howard was the most recent -- orphaned in Hurricane Irma -- wife bottle fed him -- he was a hoot --- till his balls dropped then he was just "aggressive" and was released to the big oak tree in the yard--- still see him now and again comes down out of the treetops to shake his tail at us and scampers off---

Nothing plays quite as nice as this Faux Paul. There's a quality of work that i put into it that rivals any custom shop guitar out there. The natural intonation is excellent, to such a degree that its almost uncanny.

I don't miss the new 2016 Gibson SG that i gave to Adrian, but i do miss the incredible feel of this guitar.

we ....traded.........as I recall .......I think? who knows I drink alot .......
But -- I can ATTEST (as I have rubbed my junk on the FauxPaul in places Robert may NOT have cleaned yet ;) ) and my Squirrel (yes) Howard gnawed on its headstock ------- that it is A FOOGIN AMAZING guitar ..........
Playing far far above its price point and maligned country of origin .........and that its fake .....still......it kicks the ASS of MANY USA GIBSONS Ive owned ...and played and tried to own(and went WTF?!?!?! THIS is a GIbson -- NO--
-- but haters gonna hate-- and all.....

It's the guitar everyone with a custom shop Gobson wanted after playing it...

yes Im certain of it -- thats how you came by the Faux Paul--- and I came by the SG(which Im still trying to find the "right" pickup configuration in) ......and a bill for freight to and from Californication.....etc etc. etc.....Im glad all my guitars arent free Id be broke --- oh wait I am broke -- so....

ANYWHO---- Many the PRO has used a faux on stage --
I created this one
starcaster 2.jpg
From a 50.00 USED Squire "Starcaster" and sold to a Bar player along the gulf coast who HAD a real Surf Green vintage ($$$) strat but HATED taking it to gigs at the beach where salt air--- beer-- and THIEVES run a muck......see he dropped 3 bills on this gem and we where both very happy -- HE KNEW it was a Fake-o bake-o and wnated for that reason (plus it looked and played REAL well had some nice pickups etc....)

THis was had for under 200.00 from CHINA -- made the junk rub rounds in the swamp -- and is now uiised (as I am told) by a local musician --- good looking CHEAP guitar -- for gigs -- if it gets damaged or stolen -- IT WAS CHEAP

So yes..........the Faux have a place ---

In this band, we have three guitarists, which adds a lot of versatility. Our bandleader has a sparkle-top Les Paul and a brand new Firebird (in addition to his DT555 Destroyer and Schecter E1) and the other guitarist has a 40+ year old Les Paul Standard tobacco-burst with soapbars in it. It's funny in a way that people always ask me about my guitars. "What year is that Gibson?" is a common question. I am used to hearing guitarists responding with something like, "Ya, Man, this is a 1970 Les Paul. I paid over 10-grand for it...."

I always tell people that my black Les Paul is one that I built at home in the garage and that it's not real and that my motivation was to build a better Gibson than even Gibson could produce.

I suppose that my practical nature and humble upbringing would never allow me to spend $3,000 to $5,000 on a guitar, especially when I see so many other worthwhile causes that could use the money...

You can see the back of the 59 Chibster in one of the photos below:

I remember when you were painting that surf green Strat! That's been a few years ago. I didn't like that color back then, however it has since grown on me... or is that just mold?
