It is something, how someone we never meet or know personally, can have such an affect emotionally on us.

Back in, I think 81ish, my best friend Gary had gotten Ozzy tickets. It was going to be my first concert, I was about 12.
Well, my sister got my mother's ear, and told her how Ozzy had bitten the head off a bat. (Remember how big that was?) Anyway, my mother changed her mind and I couldn't go. Can't remember, but I must have thrown a tantrum. I was sooooooo mad at my sister!!!

A short time later, Randy was killed....

i would of been to Bocc69 lol.im old enough to have seen Sabbath and Ozzy many times in my life.i seen Ozzy enough ive seen all the great guitarists hes had backing him.Iommi,Jake e Lee,Zack Wylde when he was a skinny kid and Randy Rhoads.all fantastic in there own way.

Big fan of Randy Rhoads here. I too was was full of disbelief and sadness when I found out he died.
Allow me to backup a bit, here. I'm a huge Sabbath fan since the mid 70s. I was pist that Ozzy and the rest of the boyz parted. I blamed Ozzy at the time. When I found out that Ozzy was releasing his first solo album, I already had my mind set that I was not going to like it. Then it happened. First cut I heard was "I Don't Know". What Godly insane sound was that? Then came "Crazy Train"... who the Hell is the guitar player? At the time, I was still living in the West Side L.A. and Santa Monica area. Pacific Palisades is next to Santa Monica on the north side. Randy was from Pacific Palisades. Local American boy is absolutely killing it with Ozzy. OK, I like Ozzy now. First tour thru L.A., at the Forum... I'm there... :dood:. Phenomenal... :dood::dood:

My first glimpse of him: Randy comes out with that creamy white Les Paul of his. The f'n guitar looked bigger than Randy. What an OMG moment...

Yeah, I still deeply miss him.

I met his Mother on the 20th anniversary of his death - March 19th, 2002 - to present her with a CD containing my acoustic tribute to Randy - a song called "Panorama." I was given the grand tour of Randy's Burbank home. Stood in his room, which still contained many of his belongings....sat in the living room and listened to his Mother speak of him. It was moving...

Randy bought his Gibson - a 1974 - from a music store used. He had the fretwire pulled and had tiny 6230 frets installed, then had them leveled and crowned...

Randy was to me ----as a "budding guitarist in school" --- a GOD --- The sounds he was coaxing from that Les Paul..........seriously made my brain --and soul-- EXPLODE

Just a reminder that Randy was serious about classical guitar. That made a difference in his playing.

True, very true...I grew up loving classical and flamenco, but I don't like acoustics. In fact, I think I only have one recording of me playing an acoustic and my only acoustic hasn't had frets in it since 2010...but I love the classical/flamenco influence on a Les Paul...
