Well, That Was Something

I've been VERY busy as of late, haven't had much time for the innerwebs.

So, last night I had some free time, and nothing scheduled for today. Thought it would be a good time to have a couple of rums over ice, play some guitar, and b.s. with my buds at TTR.

Sitting in the dark, posting in RVA's theory thread, was having a great time.

About 9:00 MST, I get a knock on the door, mind you Mrs. Steve is already fast asleep due to having to get up early for work, and a combo of rum drinks!

Well, it's a semi- scruffy dude at the door, says to me " I'm your neighbor behind you", we've never met. Then proceeds to tell me "You're transformer is on fire"

I tell him thanks, and leisurely stroll to the backyard, to be greeted with my TRANSFORMER on fire!.

My neighbor had already called 911, and the Captain of the crew was a former client of mine, and a fellow musician. He explained an explosion is not unheard of in these circumstances. Tells me to wake up the wife, and collect my guitars, to be on the safe side.

Ended fine, but put power out until 4:00 a.m., and ruined my only free evening I've had for weeks!

All good this morning, but that's my story of being rude and ignoring y"all last night, could have ended so much worse. Right @Don O ?

Well, I'm buying the neighbor a gift certificate at the local restaurant - watering hole, sure appreciated his looking after us, and I have a feeling he will be invited to more than one bbq this summer.

TL;DR SteveB trid to blow up his little mountain town with his awful guitar playing.

Peace

I have witnessed a couple of them exploding (in darkness it’s a really big gone wrong fireball) but I have never seen one on fire .
Glad all is well brother. Whoa
Mitch

Thanks everyone, no pics my phone was on charge!

Think the wife got a few, I'll check with her when she gets home.

I have seen one explode on a construction site, @Mitch Pearrow SJMP is exactly right. Loud boom, and a big fireball, full of sparks.

So much adrenaline that I haven't really slept!

It was kind of humorous, the Capt. of the first responders telling me "save that Strat", he always has loved that guitar. Lol.

Never got close to the dwelling, but it still didn't feel that way.

There was a transformer explosion just down the street from me a few years back.

My daughter legit thought that we had an alien spaceship landing for a few minutes....the sounds it made were wicked

There is some video of it

No idea at all, but I've been getting weird power surges all day.

Computers hooked up to surges protection, will run the amps with a variac if I use them.

Wish I knew more about this subject. I have a neighbor that has been running a loud compressor? Sounding machine since yesterday?

It has been record heat round here.
Maybe air con?
That same system for your heat, has spread to my area as well, there has been a weather alert for the Banning area which is only 20 miles from me (San Gogornio Pass ) heading into the Palm Springs area damm hot .
I am not liking the heat so much!

Back in 2006 we did a shopping center in La Quinta when the material was delivered the slab temp was 126 degrees Fahrenheit !!
Only job I had to have the AC on full blast at 6:00 AM

Glad you guys are ok, and your neighbor was there to call the fire department and alert you.

Saw a transformer blow up across the street from my parents' house once. Nothing like the smell of a nasty electrical fire.
