Chili,
-- since Ive been up since 4 with a sick dog-- and have a "minute" Ill 'esPLAin....
I have watched videos ----and in theory I considered first removing the motor and having it rebuilt and reinstalling it--(might work for cheap) might not -- there might be some OTHER nefarious issue causing the motor TOO burn out (not just age/use/etc.)
However--
I have found since buying this place (in the outer nether regions of swampo-o-potamia ) NOTHING that has been repaired -- or replaced here in 31 years-- was done to code, logically or with any extra cost involved (to be clear Ive been here 5 years) -- its all REDNECK engineered and the last rednecks werent that bright. Basically used WHATEVER was cheapest -- or free -- to achieve any repair-- and left it. Wrong gauge wires-- wrong sized pipe -- miss matched pipe with home made "reducers", 2x4's screwed TOGETHER for a post -- holding a porch --- where they "ran out" of 4x4 posts (back porch has 5 4x4's and 1 2x4x2 ..........uhm-----?????
Ive replaced -- or upgraded by hand -- by myself--
A horribly "designed" entire septic system (BY HAND including digging new field lines)
whole home a/c unit (2 times and that is still an ongoing battle, read further)
numerous other plumbing and electrical "glitches"
replaced the roof and a front living room wall and windows and door (thanks Hurricane Irma)
almost all the flooring
a bathtub
not any of it (including the current well situation-- which I have replaced the Pressure switch--- pressure tank and various other small parts to an investment of over 400.00 all ready this past week) is/was designed (thats a laugh) to code
heres an example in most systems the WELL and the pump and the holding tank are all "together or within a few feet of each other--) MINE the well pump and well are 20 ft. from the holding tank and filter system............????????--- why? ---dunno-- was "easy"? (took more pipe) was lazy? -- yes -- was stupid (yes) -- old shallow well dried up they installed a new deep well BUT NOT a new pressure tank ---- just left it where it was and ran some (20 ft) of extra pipe between the 2 (with no cut off valve)
For yet another example --- the septic "system" has 2 holding tanks and a sump pump that literally pumps poop UPHILL --- its to complicated to type but the original system had 7, 90 degree bends in the 1.5inch (yes) pipe from 1 tank to the other ...............wow--- wonder why that system kept backing up and burning up pumps--??????
The orignal trailer on the property sat closer to the septic tank---the new (31 years ago) trailer was placed (when the other burnt down) 35 feet AWAY from the septic -- on a LOW spot in the property -- that literally will have within the next month 1-2" of standing water SURROUNDING it -- (literally --cue the Monty Python) Its sinking into the swamp-- and the poop has to be pumped UP to the septic tank ---- 35 feet away up hill --
I have decided -- that I know enough to know I DONT KNOW everything ---I am also willing to admit when I need a pro to come LOOK at this system -verify all the components are matching and correct--it might be just the pump motor ??-- or something else might have caused the problem Ive replaced several things that didnt FIX the problem just MOVED the problem and increased/worsened it.
Farm NEEDS water, reliably -- frankly -- I dont NEED the items Im exchanging to get the job done 100% right and hopefully trouble free-- for years--
and...compounding this thinking........
I also have back issues and even "simple tasks" (like the pressure tank replacement-- 44 gallon -- read large and heavy-- to buy, haul home, and uninstall remove old / install new) had me in agony and took a day of stretching, 45.00 at the CHIROPRACTOR and advil to get my back BACK to functional.
---Ive seen the wells pulled---- frankly its not worth the pain....and it may NOT have to be done--AND I might "F" something up worse-- trying.
It MIGHT just be the motor and replace and go-- but we will find out at 10 this morning when the "guy" comes and fixes it .
20 years ago Chili --- Id have had that thing pulled and rebuilt before supper---and done 3 other things in the process- but I gotta admit -- I aint 30 no more --
30 years ago Id have had it ripped out redug a fresh well, hit on the girl at the pump house and got a date -- smoked a bowl--- and drank half a bottle of rum while doing it all before noon ------and doing HER before midnight--- but I aint 20 no more ----
AND Before that this morning I have to achieve several other chores -- including opening up the a/c unit (which isnt running right again) and cleaning the coils -- this has to be done every other month -- because we have sand.......and critters that kick up and carry in the sand to the home and fur and feathers and dander around the farm which requires filters replaced every 4 days (yes) and other "work arounds" like daily vacuuming --
most folks have to do the outside coils every couple years-- inside coils every 3? maybe -- here its every 2-3 months -- and Im hoping to get that accomplished -- on top of several work oriented things -- prior to the guys arrival so I can watch and see what he does and learn --- so when it goes out again (which it will) I can do it -- or not depending --
