Bad SG Potentiometer JuJu

I posted in the other thread about changing the circuit board out of my SG Standard. But, there's a bonus SG pot story: I've been playing my '81 SG Deluxe a fair amount lately. Pulled it out a couple days ago, plugged it in, and the neck volume pot broke off...like, literally, the shaft cracked right by the wiper and popped out of the guitar. WTF?

So, I open the guitar up for the first time since I have owned it and I find out it's a disaster in there. The only part that looked original was the selector switch and the rest of the wiring was a hatchet job. To make matters worse, everything was very badly oxidized. Didn't take long before I knew I was just going to replace everything, so I gutted the guitar and ordered a wiring harness. I also decided to do a little experiment, so pulled the stock pickups (Shaw neck and Super HB Bridge) and am going to put the set of hot humbuckers in it.

I cleaned up everything in the cavity and plopped the pickups into it. Ordered the parts (wiring harness, new swith, new jack, everything) and just waiting for them to arrive to finish the job. Wondering what else is going to break in me on the next few days.

Wow! You are on a real run of terror @gball ...sorry for your troubles.
I noted having had a similar experience in your other thread...with an old Peavey(not mine, but it is still in my house).

I've had pots go bad but never one just break like that. It's an almost 40-year-old guitar that has seen a lot of miles so I guess the pot was just turned one too many times.

That's what I figure. Just waiting to find out which one is going to die on me next, and cost me a bunch of money I don't want to spend.
Send me a Firebird and a MEsa for SAFE KEEPING -- far away from the bad JUJU blues ;)

That sucks. But reminds me that I need to go buy a new battery for my wife's car.

You are having a bad run on the SG pots gball. Hopefully having to replace your wife's car battery is the 3rd bad juju occurrence & there's nothing more in stall for you. Cheers
