My Wife Just Blew My Mind

Okay...my wife does not play guitar, but she is a great singer and has a real ear for music.

This morning when my wife was away at a friend's house, I was goofing around with my Stratocaster and came up with this little piece and recorded it. Later, I played the recording for my wife without even saying who it was. I just started playing the recording without even telling her I was going to play a song.

What blew my mind is that only a few seconds into hearing the recording, she told me it was me playing! She recognized it as me, even though she's never heard me play this! I asked her how she knew it was me. She said, "It just sounds like you."

She also knew right away which guitar it was. She's heard all my guitars and she knows what they sound like. I just had no idea how much she recognizes their sounds.

This intrigued me, so I played these clips for her. I've posted these before. She correctly identified them as being my 1974 SG:

Then, I tried to throw her a curve. I played this clip, which she's never heard me play, and she correctly identified it as my Les Paul:

All I can say is, I'm impressed.

That is not easy! Get that woman a guitar!

I've tried to help her play on a few occasions. She loves the sound of guitar, but doesn't like trying to play one.

She prefers playing keys.

At first the title of your thread was a little suggestive Smitty, but I got it now. Rock on Smitty...rock on!

Nice tracks...Nice playing!!!

I just posted this in another thread (Guess Who???) earlier today. My wife, who is not a singer and freely admits she knows nothing about music, can correctly pick out my Gibson SG, Schechter Hellraiser and Fender Squirecaster, at high gain, each and every time...

Judas Kiss!!!

The first concert I played with a Christian band, back in 1988, we did this song. I have the concert on Super 8!!!! Haven't heard it in a very long time!!!!

Yeah, that was Petra's hey day. I saw them twice. The second time Larry Norman was the opening act.

I saw Larry Norman live back in the 90's playing at a high school gym in my home town. I even got his autograph. He's a great performer live...he really got the crowd going.

I saw him twice. The first time was with a full band when I saw him open for Petra. The second time it was just him and an acoustic guitar. It was still pretty cool.

He died in 2008 from heart problems.

That's too bad he passed away. I have a few of his tapes lying around somewhere and I think I have a Petra cassette tape also. When I saw Larry Norman it was just him on stage alone without band members. He played the guitar and then the piano. He did a fabulous performance. He brought down da house!
