Well it's not been a complete secret but I did pick up a beautiful Gibson Firebird in like new condition for my birthday! I thought that after talking some pictures of her outside yesterday on my birthday that it was time for an official NGD press release! lol
Hey, like they say,..
ics2:

There she is, Firebird & Camaro, together.

Besides this guitar seeming to possess a lighter color Vintage Sunburst finish than most of the other available newer models I looked at when shopping,.. I also personally liked this model year's features such as it's wide fretboard, adjustable nut, fret over binding & NO G-Farce tuning system to deal with! Nearly everything seemed about as good as I was going to find for myself & my playing needs & personal guitar preferences.
I know, I'm pretty tough & particular when it comes to guitars at this point in life.

Not only is she a beautiful neck through body curvy lusty Looker, she is also a genuine highly playable guitar thanks to that adjustable nut, wide board & No Nibs that allow near effortless expression through your fingertips! She is exceptionally smooth, fast & articulate with a responsive 23.5K ceramic bridge pup that pulls off its assigned task wonderfully largely because of the highly wound bobbins that used thin gauge wire to get the job done. That thoughtful design technique brought out nice note definition, broad 'n clear highs, presentable mids, abundant harmonic content that jumps out & blossoms, seemingly endless sustain & a low end slap & thrust that is addicting. Wow right !?
I've literally played this guitar for hours already. My only issues you ask??
My issues would be that the action hasn't stopped moving upward as I've been keeping it in tune & playing it, although it has greatly slowed down in it's movement after truss adjustment & is hopefully close to reaching a stop sometime in the near future!
I'm also experiencing slight tuning stability issues where I shouldn't really have any. I'm sure this is compounded by the neck action still settling &, I also suspect that these Steinberger tuners don't 'lock' as well as I would like them to.
And to think I'll probably get to revisit this movement period again when I go to 9 gauge strings soon as these are played out.
And lastly,.. although I'm really digging this bridge pickup, the neck pup doesn't do as nice a job on it's own in comparison as it lacks definition, lacks high end & leans toward the muddy side. I just know there are way more inspiring alternatives to easily be had. Too bad really as nailing that would've have potentially made this factory set-up a real Home-Run!
I'm almost 100% sure that one of those vintage mini-humbuckers I have on-da stash is going to find it's way into that neck position with the pair of late 70's to 80's era Firebird pups probably getting the first shot at breathing some renown neck position magic into this Firebird & allowing it to rise from the ashes breathing renewed flame & fire all it's own.
Last,... In a nod to the Firebird designer Ray Dietrich who previously designed cars for Lincoln, Packard, Duesenberg, Ford & Chrysler!.. I took a pic of 'the Bird' laid over & flying into the wind, just like a car would travel for no other reason to see any cool car design roots giving themselves away.

Meh...yaaah.. I guess I can see a front spoiler & a rear tail-fin... (might even make a great tattoo)

There really is little denying, she is just a big beautiful sexy bitch!
Yup, I'm pretty darn happy with this guitar even if I did have to buy it myself for my own birthday! But hey, take notice fellas, this excuse is a great trick for getting a new guitar every year!
(If any of you need additional tips for pulling this one over on the more difficult or frugal type of old lady just PM me. happy 2 help)
