So here's the story...
I was minding my own business (uh huh, sure Dave) and the lead player in my band askes me if I want to go to NY to the first ever Dweezil Zappa band camp. This was back in 2010.
Well duh!
So four of us end up going!
I can embellish and add to this story as we go on, but suffice to say I learned nothing and had a riot there! We stayed in what was an old ranch property up in the Catskills, it was pretty dang cool.
There were about 100-150 peeps the if I recall.
I had never even heard of PRS guitars before this, and I was in the market for a Clapton strat at the time. Dweezil had just gotten a signature Private Stock done at PRS, not that I knew that at the time.
All around us every day were open cases of PRS core model guitars you could just pick up and play... so I did. WTF?!!??? Amazing!
Anyway, around the 5th day in Dweezil raffled off 3 guitars, and I won one, it was a korina SE ONE that I... um... won!:p



Dweezil handed it to me (kinda looks like he wants it back, eh?), and I played/gigged it for months.

So... this is the thread I'll use to show my PRS addiction since then. A history, in order of acquisition of my PRS guitars, of course starting with the ONE that started it all... um... er... the SE ONE...



Got Dweezil to autograph it of course!



I'll post the next one (not a won ONE) tomorrow!

When I got back from the Dweezil camp I played that SE ONE for quite a bit, but I still had that itch to get a new strat.
The PRS bug was in me now so I started looking around... and I found...



A 2009 PRS 305. Dayum... scratched that itch with that classic body carve. Gigged and played this a lot. Very comfy and awesome locking tuners.





Paired with a Hot Rod Deluxe...

 
BTW... Dweezil is the nicest guy. So humble and honest. We'd sit with him for meals and have real conversations, not hollow lip service. The whole ZPZ band was there. All band members put on classes during the day. It always started with "Dweezil's Master Class" in the morning. Then we'd get to peel off and attend classes on drumming, vocals, keyboards, theory, basically they covered everything.
At night we'd get to see ZPZ perform. There was a small barn sized building with a stage. I got to sit in the front row and the sound was fantastic and not too loud. The sound guy had his stuff together I can tell you that!
Dweezil has just started to use the first Axe-FX. His guitar tech was responsible for getting it up and running, and maintaining it.
That was the same building we went to the master class.
The Master class was hilarious... Every morning get there early with your guitar and grab a seat that had an amp, not all did. Every freakin' day the class would have about 10 minutes of instruction and then turn into hilarious stories of Frank Zappa, and growing up in that house. Too funny.

They are proprietary PRS pups. The sister of this guitar is a 513. That guitar has two of these pups in the neck, a single in the middle and another pair of them at the bridge.
They are referred to as 513 pickups.
The 305 shown here is a tad darker tone wise that your average strat, but all the positions are useful. A little less quack. The only knock on this guitar is that swapping pups is difficult/impossible, but I don't care as it is great as it is.
