Tapewound bass strings

Does anyone here have any experience with tapewound bass strings? Thinking about putting a set on my Michael Kelly acoustic. The halfwounds that are currently on it aren't scratching my itch for tone . They aren't bad, they just don't play nice with the inlay on the fingerboard.(rattle and buzz) And, yes, the truss rod is properly adjusted.

I have owned several sets--- do you like NYLON -- or silk? ;) --- lol

seriously there are VARIOUS types---

I HAVE a set of Rotosound tapes (black satin) Id be willing to send if they would fit -- for "testing"

I pulled them from my Peavey Unity as they were TOO dark for it-- went with D'addario tape wounds (black) which had a LITTLE more punch ----

the DR brand black widdows are also VERY ncie and closer to a round wound -- er but black -- witha coating that makes them a little more THUD-ish and less "ZING"krang clash-- ish than regular rounds

The T-40 has the laBella black tapewound...the lighter gauge set. They’re OK, but a little light for my taste on that bass...they don’t have the same growl that I got when I put a set of the heavier white tapes on the T-45.
I did like the black set enough to want to try a heavier set...when I loaded up the white set...I was very happy...I have another set all ready to go on another bass...

I’d like to move the black set to the Washburn, where I think they’d do well...but I’m not sure there’s enough A string to pull it off...

First off, that's a gorgeous harem! I've always had a soft spot for both Peavey and Washburn basses. Second, I think you are right, that A string is gonna be a stretch.

the Rotosounds and (as our astute low down BASTARD brother said) Labellas have a smoother and -- IMHO more UPRIGHT string vibe/feel/tone ---

I had some Rotosounds on a Hofner copy and it KILLED -- loved the tone--

the D'addarios are a "synthetic" or platic-ish tape--
the Labellas and Rotosounds are real fabric --- true old school UPRIGHT "thud"

He’ll do it too!

the D'addario nylon--- isnt real FABRIC--- I can get you pics tomorrow--that MIGHT show -- but the D'addario is almost a synthyetic plastc feel -- very "tight"
the Rotosound is a true FABRIC tape soft --- silk like-- more like the strings of "old"

you can see and feel the material--the D'addarios closer to a "painted" finish ??? its hard to describe --

whats to lose?? -- Ill send ya mine even if ya dont use them -- you'll be able to FEEL the difference before install--- ;)
