smokehouse burst???

I'd toss in another 500 bone and get the Classic. At $2000 with the specs it has it is by far the best value Gibson has. I'm not much of a fan of the '61 pups, but maybe they sound better in a Les than an SG.
 
Looking at it as for what it is, a well made instrument to play.
I don't think it looks that bad.

It's a real maple cap, you can see it on the orange one, in the edge view.

But top binding would really have made a striking difference.
As for the price? It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Wait a couple of years & they'll blow out all the unsold stock for $699...:celebrate:

It reminds me of the edgeburst I did on the Harmony archtop.
That was plain maple as well.

That looks good on the acoustic, to me not so much on the Gibbie.
