Looks like blotchy maple burst, imo.I wanna say that smokehouse burst color came out a while back. Not sure if it was a 2018 color...

Looking at it as for what it is, a well made instrument to play.
I don't think it looks that bad.

It's a real maple cap, you can see it on the orange one, in the edge view.
But top binding would really have made a striking difference.
As for the price? It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
Wait a couple of years & they'll blow out all the unsold stock for $699...
It reminds me of the edgeburst I did on the Harmony archtop.
That was plain maple as well.

The binding just sets it off.
Thanks, it really does work for what it is.That looks good on the acoustic, to me not so much on the Gibbie.
I agree. I still like a nice flamey top, but the plaintops have an understated charm all their own.Yeah if it had binding it would look a lot better due to the contrast. I prefer plain tops versus any sort of figuring so this is not totally bad imo.
I guess Mr Grumpy is right, and I am a gear slut... I like the Smokeburst.
Wine Red is nice, too...
