I hope the Over-seers aren’t offended that I didn’t post this in a specific brand thread but there is a reason for that, as can be seen from the title!
For the past several years I have been buying mediocre guitars, fixing them up and selling them. Mostly I have been able to make some bucks on them here and there. This has allowed me to slowly buy better guitars to fix up/improve and sell. Well it seems that all of my horse trading of guitars ( a la Adrian) has finally paid off.
It all started several weeks ago when I was able to parlay a trade and a small amount of cash into my awesome PRS McCarty that most of you have been kind enough to comment on.
I have been at it again! I just traded my very nice Epiphone LP Standard LQ Series for a MIA 2013 Fender FSR Rustic Ash Telecaster. It is butterscotch blonde with visible grain and a belly cut. It has a very nice slightly flamed maple neck and fretboard and is equipped with Custom Shop Texas Special pickups. It is light and sounds great. It currently has a non-original white pickguard but I have a black one to go on. I know it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I was drawn to it as soon as I saw it and played it.
Next up is my crowning achievement! With the acquisition of the McCarty, I didn’t feel the need to keep the 1998 PRS Standard 22. A trade and some horse trading derived cash and Viola! (That’s French!) I have purchased myself an amazing 2019 Gibson Les Paul Standard ‘60’s in “Unburst”. That is a look similar to the faded colour original ‘50’s bursts got as they faded with age. It has the ‘60’s thinner neck and Grover tuners, Burstbucker ‘61 pickups and hand wired CTS pots with Orange Drop caps. No more PC board electronics! I gotta say that, despite what I have seen on Youtube and read in these Forum posts, Gibson’s QC seems top notch.
