My taste for fuzz has changed recently. I bought a germanium FF for it's mellow sounds. I'm now liking a more nasty fuzz tone. So, I bought a (used)...

Zvex Mastotron

The pulse width control turns it from a silicon fuzz into a nasty velcro, spitty fuzz. There is even a control to work with active pickups, and a switch to work with a bass. With all the controls, it's very versitile. It totally satisfies my Fuzz GAS (until I want an Octavix later this year).

Here's my other fuzz pedals...

BTW, I've been flipping my old 90s DOD pedals on Fleabay for exorbitant prices. I sold my old chorus (FX60) for 89.00.

Gotta love fuzz!

I see you have an FZ-5. After going through a metric s#it-ton of fuzz pedals I decided to just keep that one since I have an otherwise all-Boss pedalboard. It's versatile, sounds great, and is indestructible. I know a lot of internet scholars like to bag on that pedal but at high volume through a cooking amp it sounds as good or better than anything I have tried.

You're right. Everyone seems to hate the FZ5 now, but in 20 years it may be well sought after. It'll be expensive and vintage.

Nice! Zvex makes some good stuff. I've had a Box Of Rock for years. Have been intrigued by their Fuzz Factory for awhile too - hesitated because despite a wide variety of craziness, it's said to be hard to get the same sound twice.

The Mastotron seems like a great combination of versatility and consistency.

Cool...can i borrow the Relax setting sometime ..just for life in general ? congrats..finding out fuzz was such a tone weapon back when...lil hair on the old circuits really is a classic OD sound..

That's a great pedal, sooo pleased you're enjoying it. You know your fuzz!

***decided not to insert the picture I was thinking of here***

Do you have a favourite, Chubbles?
I'm not a kid anymore. I like tons of classic rock and hard core blues. You can play blues on pretty much any OD or fuzz. My mini germanium fuzz face will always be a sentimental favorite. I am a bit of a pedal addict/whore. I can't stop collecting fuzz, OD, and distortion pedals. I've got plenty of compression, chorus, reverb, etc. But dirt pedals are awesome.
