NGD: Chibson "Spectre" Les More Black Beauty Custom!

Well...I opened a dispute on Ali Express for the Maple Cap I ordered being Mahogany...

They responded within 3 hours and refunded me $100 of my purchase price.

...Sooo my Custom is now to my door for $200...and the upgrades will begin tomorrow!

You and Esge worlds tightest guitar players lol . Well ya know that mahogany top may not be a bad Idea
I was gonna get a all Mahogany LP a while back myself . And still might down the road.
Congrats! Ya cheap son of a guns ya done got two new guiatrs for next ta nuthin here lately LOL
If you are looking to unload the tuners, I might be interested.

$&^$* I have to drill out ALL the Pot and Switch holes...my Vintage 50's rig is to fat...I think I'll use a progressive reamer and do it by hand...

I change the tuners out for Grover's and installed a MSSC 50's wiring kit with PIO Caps and a set of Wolf Tone pick ups...problem is I F'ed up somewhere and only the neck pup is working...no time to work on it until Monday...I may have to take it all out and start over.

I have the entire guitar torn down and here is what I have observed...

1. The pots, switch and jack are low quality crap...but they work just fine.
2. The tuners are not much better and beyond use for me as I put locking tuners on everything...
3. The PUP's sounded pretty good and are stamped "Epiphone on the back. They are as good as most $500 guitar pups and better than the Agile and low $$ PRS pups I've played.

All the hardware and electronics are out and are NOT going back in...period! (I should have ordered as a husk for less $$$)

I will evaluate the guitar as a player when I install all the good quality parts...

4. The body is well made and the fit and finish is very nice. The binding is nicely done and the inlay work is flawless.
The inlays are obviously plastic and not real MOP...
5. The neck is straight and the truss rod functions as it should.
6. The top is NOT maple as ordered...the entire guitar is Mahogany...Since it's painted black I doubt they even veneered it...

While not as happy as on first arrival I am still OK with the guitar. It was a fun learning experience and I enjoyed it.
After I install all the new parts it will have cost as much as an Epiphone Pro or there about. I will have a one of a kind Custom made with my logo, but it will have no resale value...

Bottom line is I bought it as an experiment and a Keeper so no loss there.

After buying the off the shelf fake for $189 and this "Custom" for $300 I believe the "Fake" has more value overall, but you have to deal with the copyright infringement.

So what am I saying here in the end??? I would NOT recommend anyone buy one of these unless they want to goof around with the $188 Chibson knowing you'll never be able to sell it...

That folks is my honest evaluation after 4 months and 2 guitars from Chinese Chibson factories...

Pictures coming SOON!

Nice!

You ever get the wiring issues worked out Sp8ctre

No I had to put it on hold...work has been crazy with the bad weather out here. All my remote radio sites are taking
hits and I've been up and down every mountain within 300 miles in every direction of Long Beach!

I am going to try and do some more troubleshooting on Monday night or Wednesday night. I'm still taking
classes at Berklee so I have to keep up with that too...

Here's a pic of my B.C.Rich . She's a beauty I like her but I will probably sell her off at some point. When I first got her I played every day like I play my other guitars, only one problem with her gave me mega pain in my hand. None of my other guitars do this, something going on in the neck design. It happens I know with others as well. So I will sell it and replace with another axe.DSCI0493.JPG

I prefer and play the 50's style necks - thick ones approaching and exceeding 1 inch.

Some people say thick necks are uncomfortable to play.

Here's an example of some Gibson neck profiles.

I found out when trying different guitars that i like a slim neck, My B.C.Rich has a slim neck but didn't realize until after playing for hrs at a time and started getting pain in my hand. The neck is shaped different than my Godin guitars, they are so comfortable. This is something I will really be looking hard at when I buy my next guitar. Yes the manufacturers use different shape necks on their guitars, its finding the one that's right for you. Myself I don't have large hands the Godins have what they call an ergo neck.
