Which Wraparound Bridge?

^ I've no doubt that's a great setup, S5, but I just don't want the black saddles on this '64 style (kinda) SG. I'm not doubting that bridge system is better than the one I'll end up with...

i like nickel myself to Grump but when i built these two JRS one had a nickel pup and one had a chrome soooooo,as far as quality i can tell no difference in the two..I love the Gibson white button deluxe tuners to but the strip tuners are more period correct .Mine are both copies of the Gibson 1961 Gibson LP JRs which were really the SG shape.

Fully agree with everything you've said there, JG. :dood:

You know, I'm really annoyed with meself... Just some of the simple changes in Hey Joe I am doing sooooo badly! Arghhhhhhhhh. So, now, I am going back to basics, just getting more accurate and speedy with individual chord changes. I will not let this song (the bloody easy version) beat me.

Yes, JG. But, doing the filler runs and trying to move around the fretboard a bit... It's almost comical how bad some of my C to E efforts are; worse than an absolute beginner (and I'm not talking David Bowie's worst album here!).

I cant find this video, but I have seen it. This is the still picture they had when they changed the bridge on this 1964 SG, to a Resomax the guy said he loved it!!

If you like the Graph Tech Resomax bridges, they also come with metal saddles and a nice choice of finishes. They also make a one-piece wraparound bridge, too!

Check this link out:

I still think you should go with the MojoAxe lightning bar. Especially after SG John posted a pic of his!!!

Thank you all for your comments; one Mojoaxe on the way...

Now, anybody tried the Kluson Supremes?

I like the idea of the 18:1, and at only US$49 delivered seems like a really good deal. Looks like this guitar is moving towards Nickel!

Edit to add: ordered. I like the idea of those 18:1s.

Are you installing a pair of locking studs too? You probably already know which ones I'll be suggesting... :rolleyes2:

The locking studs look ugly to me, so I'll probably not unless it becomes a problem. I like the visual simplicity. If you have any solutions that don't change the look then I'll be happy to hear them.

I the tailpiece fits good in the studs you dont need the locking studs. Long as it dont rock to much. Now im sure the Gibby is American Standard size but metric tailpiece studs are bigger .

In that regards, then the Tone Pros locking studs will look more original and simplistic for your guitar.

On my white PT SG Special, I could not tolerate the amount of tilt on the original lighting bar bridge. IMO, I always felt that the original design of the flanges of the studs allowed too much slop. The first set of locking studs I tried was the Tone Pros, and they did the job very nicely... and looked original, too.

At an earlier time of courtship with my PT SG, I stated that I would never replace its lighting bar bridge. But, never say never, right? In, comes the Schroeder bridge... In, comes the Schroeder locking studs!!!!! That's my story, and I'm sticking to it... :p

Cant believe you called the Schroeder locking studs, ugly...:cry::cry:. I'm going to go to the local dog park and start kicking all of them... :good_morning:

^ not ugly, obviously, a wrong choice of words on my part, a very nice and clean design (your white SG Special is gorgeous), just clearly different. I'm also not against changing the lightening to a completely different system if it doesn't work - my natural first point of call is a Gotoh/TonePros but that bridge you showed is a better bridge so... The short maestro seems to stop some (a lot) of the angled pressure on the bridge, and the chunkier wraparound lightening bar seems to flex a lot less than an ABR1 on a standard, so the actually needs of the bridge on a Special if you string the vibrola are less than many SG Specials without vibrolas and standards with vibrolas (which seem to need very smooth saddle movement) - I could be talking rubbish here, often do...

Anyways, what do you think about a DTs Maestro tailpiece or an ebony block? The short vibrola just looks unfinished to me, and this guitar is just a 2019 in a different colour, so it's not as if I need to worry about complete authenticity.

Thats why ya all need a big pile of extra tailpiece studs on hand. If ya think there all the same well ill tell ya there not.Even if there the same American standard or Metric they all very. Ya just got to find the ones that dont create tilt on the bridge as Sysco states.
