B major and B minor...

...today, while practicing scales, I tried to listen carefully to the guitar to understand what sounds best on this particular guitar.

For some reason, Bminor and Bmajor sounded great (B, not so much...). My usual liking for G or A or even D wasn't there. No mistaking, Bminor sounded great, as did Bmajor.

Any ideas why? My mood? This particular guitar loves those scales/chords?

B minor is a great scale..the E is right there & everybody loves F#---so you got use of all the open strings on the guitar to peddle open, off of...i try to avoid e & A like the plague due to 85% of everything seems to be there,,

D minor sad
A minor emotional
F# minor..love it

G & C happy

purposefully change scale -key or theme on each song...without trying 2-3, E & A always end up on each CD

Yeah, when playing minor chords I've liked them but not especially highlighted Bminor before - but, Bminor is very nice.

I was messing around off of the minor pentatonic, so that may have highlighted it too? I think I'll spend some time messing around in this space; look for songs based in it; play my favourite stuff in it; just experiment with it.

Good intonation will have you liking most chords especially under higher gain. Its a tricky thing.Sometime you got to go against the tuner and use your ear in there. I like B5th , Bm or what ever you want to call it.Bmajor cool to. Nothin like a good A or G cowboy chord cranked. F# is a good one too. They all fit in there somewhere.

C#m seems to suit my voice. It freaks people out at jams when I do an original in C#m though. Also I rarely use that key on an acoustic. It is pretty much all barre chords unless you use a capo and for some reason I don't like how that key sounds with a capo.

Is that tunes you like or your original music?

If the first, yeah nice tunes.

If the latter, then you are talented. The first tune sounds like a superhero movie (I really like this tune) - sell it to Marvel straight away! The second, has plenty of Placebo about it (especially with a bit more production).

Just frickin great... o_O . For the last 40 years I've been foolishly trying to play my guitars off of standard E and its minor pentatonic scale... and now you have stirred up the pot... :BH:

Don't fuk with me, Sysco - you are decades ahead of me with your knowledge! &, I love you for it... :)

Tomorrow, if all things go as planned, I will show you a guitar which you'll really like . :p
(I've been practicing hard to try and do this '64 justice (I use the term loosely, but that's what I'm gonna call the geetar...).

Sir. You and your lady are fine; great music - I truly mean that; take that personally.

Also, I've been really impressed with the musical skills of folks on this board recently. Obviously, you have folks like SG John who are legends, just like Plexi, but the talent really shines through here - the likes of Ray are superb in their efforts. I am an SG man so often go to a more 'local' forum, but this place shines well above due to the talent here (rather than the, errrm, 'pretence'?). Ray and JG did an excellent job here, we're lucky to benefit from that.

B chord always reminds me of the Whos Pinball Wizard or ACDCs Live Wire.

You Sir, are correct. :)

These songs are often just acknowleged, but they are extremely great in their own right:

I believe it was a 66/67 by Pete on this tune - but how much better would this song have been if he had used a '64!

Your right gball.gettin that G B an low E just right is crucial to get those great sounding cowboy G chords and a must for the standard A chord. I think most have a habit of pressin to hard on the low E string. Im guilty of that. When i went to the GHS Boomer 9s or there 9.5 gauge strings it takes awhile to get used to those lighter gauges.Everyone plays different. If you can crank the gain and get these chords to ring out with no quivering or waving sound your doin good. Takes a good ear for that and alot of monkeyin.

D Minor is the saddest of all keys.
