I saw this on the Thomann site, I presume it's an error - not sure if they would actually sell you this guitar at this price as it seems about US$600 cheaper than it should be... although your home nations import tax would cut into that.

Here's the link: Gibson SG Special Sparkling Burgundy

Could be a 2018 that they haven't sold, could be mislabelled, could be??? But, friends, I post it here in case one of you wants to have a punt!

Oh, man! Talk about bad timing. I just bought a vintage bass, so my guitar budget is pretty much blown for 2020 already. I need to sell stuff to make up for it...

That's the way it goes... :)

I'm waiting on an SG special which is basically that guitar with a trem, different colour, at double the price (99% exactly the same guitar)!

It's just a great price for that guitar: to get it to me, including taxes (this is based on being taxed at the highest import tax rate), would be US$1150. If I'd seen it (or it was available) when I ordered mine about 2 weeks ago I would have gone for this.

You ordered from Thomann, yes? When is it arriving?

Seemingly never. DHL have been saying that the shipment is at Frankfurt Airport for over a week (took 10 days from my order to get there...). I expect it to arrive to me in about a week; maybe the 8th or 9th which would have meant nearly 4 weeks to get to me, but it was the holiday period...

I'm still not sure the guitar that this thread is about is legit - it's $400 or so cheaper than anywhere else on the net; very unusual. I can only think it's a 2018 that's been in stock for a long time (it doesn't come up on their search engine, so may have been mistagged), so has been reduced automatically - you know how dumb company AI are...

Gahr, I have a quick question if I may... I remember you putting button strip tuners on an SG - from your experience, do you reckon that these Gotoh strip tuners will fit into the 2019 Gibson Special ok? I know there might be issues with bushing sizes and screw holes. Ideally, if the bushings fit in the holes ok and the top and bottom hole match - we'd be in a good place. Any thoughts?

I think the tuners will be identical to the "Gibson Deluxe" Klusons on my SG junior, so here's a better shot:

Which I'm pretty sure are these:

The SG special aged cherry with vibrola does seem to have creamy buttons (like those new Klusons, but unlike the SG junior and Gotoh which both look white), so I'll have to see how that goes with the binding, general look... Kluson also do some strip tuners which might be more creamy (they might all be made in the same Gotoh factory too...). And/or, it might be down to the lighting; we will see...

Anybody else wanna throw in their two pennies worth, I'd be happy to know... :dood:

&, has anybody bought that cheap Thomann SG special yet? I read somewhere that US import duty is something ridiculous low like 4%, so it'd be a great buy for an American because Thomann shipping is so low.

I would be surprised if they didn't fit. Mind you, I bought Klusons and bought them for a guitar that originally had three-on-a-plate tuners. And the peg heads had been drilled out for a set of Schallers, so I had to buy conversion bushings. You might be in need of new bushings, but they are easily acquired.

Any particular reason you want to change the tuners? Just for the sake of a more authentic look, or for quality reasons?

I like strip tuners. I'll wait and see; I didn't change anything on the SG junior, just left it as is, but one has to consider modification options, Gahr... There's MojoAxe compensated bridges, bone nuts - none of which will help me play better. :alien:

Oh, I know all too well one has to consider modifications. I kind of wish I didn't, because it would have saved me tons of money.:D Strip tuners are cool.
