Five hour jam today!

Several months ago a friend from high school friended me on Facebook. He heard I was playing guitar again and wanted to talk guitars. He just started playing four years ago. He came up from the city to watch the local bar jam I play in then stayed overnight and we jammed a bit the next day but I work so he went back to the city two hours away. I hadn’t seen him in forty years but we hit it off just like back in the 70’s. Another high school friend who I used to jam with moved to the city three years ago. We message on Facebook once in a while but hadn’t seen each other since he moved. Turns out he lives about twenty minutes from the other friend. Long story short, we got together today at the first friends house and jammed for five hours. We were having so much fun we didn’t even take a food break. It was a great day, reminiscing, playing tunes, and catching up on where life’s twists and turns had taken us. Life is very good sometimes. We are old, all in our 60’s. Two of us scheduled for surgery in the next couple of weeks. All of us starting to lose our hearing. Two of us with arthritis in our hands. Yet for five hours we forgot all that and played some music.

That's gotta be a great feeling. Any plans to get together with your friends again?
I am scheduled for eye surgery (trabulectomy) Jan 23. It is a day procedure but requires daily visits to check the pressure in my eye and adjust the surgery as needed for at least a week, possibly two. The hospital is an hour and a half from our home. I can’t drive during this time and we can’t afford both my wife and I off work so I’ll be staying in a hotel next to the hospital. They both say they’ll visit me and bring their guitars :) They have live music nightly in the hotel pub and an open mic on Wednesday. It’ll be a musical holiday.

Facebook has been great for me reconnecting with long lost friends. I really don't use it for anything else. I am glad to hear your experience as I have had a couple of similar ones.

Cador, if you don't use FB for much other than friends, there is at least 1 very useful feature I have made good use of. Facebook Marletplace. I have acquired numerous good tools, building supplies and other money making investments off there. Also good place for guitars etc.

I'm just trying to avoid the Russians and their unknowing followers. I will check out Marketplace.

That's what I call a good jam time and the kind I really miss...

Yeah, I avoid FB on principle alone (actually there's about 50 reasons, but I'll leave it at that). Haven't even used the marketplace feature, but one of my buddies is on there a lot and keeps me abreast of all the particulars.

Glad you were able to find your groove again @Kerry Brown. I haven't jammed with buddies in over a year due to political differences now being an insurmountable barrier to friendship for two of them, but I do miss it. I hold out hope they will someday see the light, otherwise it's good riddance to dead weight, in my book. Sorry, to be a pooper, I'll go sit in the corner now....
We are typical Canadians, too polite to talk politics when there is music to be played :)
