Hartley Peavey -- interview-2018

Peavey has got to have one of the Best Customer Services Dept around! :dood:

I've had the pleasure of owning quite a bit of Peavey amps, and any questions I had they have gotten back to me very quickly.
My first real amp was the Peavey Heritage 2x12 combo.

The Company is going through something, not much new and the reissue of the HP 2 I only see at Peaveys website.
There guitar line seems to have been pulled from Sweetwater and MusiciansFriend. Could still be a beef with EVH I don't know....

I miss there offerings in the way of guitars and guitar amps.

Heres to hoping they come back in a strong way!

John

I dunno. I used to be a big fan but in the last two decades it seems that Peavey has continually misled the people of Meridian, MS and don't even get me started on the combination of shifting production to China and raising prices at the same time. And if anyone is interested that hasn't seen it, watch the Peavey episode of Undercover Boss.

Peavey the man has always been an innovator and I applaud him. The products themselves are still solid, working musician stuff. The company, not so sure about, and until I am they aren't getting any of my green.

Respect what your saying @gball.
I personally don't wrong them for the move to China. They are just trying to stay competitive., part of the times were living in which
I find no pleasure in, but what can one do...
I did like the fact when they were made here in the US and there products were built like Tanks!! :dood:

Good point @eSGEe about gems in the used market!

BUT -- bb-- BUT-- but Gman-- --- so many OLD 70's-90's era stupid CHEAP -- good --solid USA made gear offerings-- guitars basses amps boards P.A.s still floating around --- why-- on earth would buy anything NEW from them? The OLD stuff was made so well it DOESNT DIE--

Gibson/Epiphone and Fender/Squire have been overseas well forever ---seen the price of a new Epiphone LEs Paul Custom Lately? (679.00)
you can get 2 good used USA made Peaveys for that !!! lol (no really you can!!!)

I have 3 USA made Peavey guitars --2 USA made Peavey Basses AND A BANDIT 112 amp that in total -- ALL COMBINED cost less than a USA made Fender Pro Strat lists for at sweetwater right now......
5-1 thems amazingly Ferengi-ish HAPPY hoarder #'s right there

and as @stringtree points out -- Gibson -- Fender --PRS--BC Rich -- Reverend --G&L --MARTIN -- and the rest et all have gone to over seas "affordable" mfct. options ---HELL several NEW makers (Like Chapman gutiars) never even HAD a home country offering---ALL sourced overseas from day 1 (seen the price of THOSE?!?!?!?!) BUT when Hartley does it -- hes a douche?
Gibson laid off a bunch of folks just last year-- closed there plant and moved-----left vendors and staff hanging ----the "Guitar Company" is not infallible--

Hartley has been up against the wall VS Gibbo and Fender since day 1 -- and the fact the company is around at all is truly a credit to his drive and tenacity --(yes Im sure he can be an A$$ -- cant we all-- and as the BOSS you make decisions that NOT EVERYONE likes--)

but again.......

USED PEAVEYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

and dont forget the brothers to the North ---- becasue USED GODINS are ALMOST as cheap!!!!!!!!!! and damn good!

I saw that episode of UndercoverBoss that Gball mentioned.

If memory is correct, Peavey basically reassured the workers in MS that they would have jobs, then went to China and said sorry for your luck.

Now I agree with ESGEE, buying Used Peavey gear only sends $$$$ to the sellers not Peavey. If we can get good USA gear for cheap, Go for it. I am not that proud. Now Walmart and other places that won't abide by the 2A, they can kiss my $$$$ goodbye.

My issue is not with them moving production so much as not lowering the prices to consumers in the process. It's become an all too common and frankly disgusting tactic of American companies. The only reason to move production to Asia is to save on manufacturing costs...surely with a much larger profit margin you can now lower the final cost of the product, at least some? But no, companies like Peavey and so many others have pocketed the additional profits. I'm especially offended with this practice by companies like this because for many years a big part of their identity was wrapped up in the "Made in USA" nature of their products.

Used MIA vs current production? It's a different discussion though. You're comparing the company they once were to the company they have become, and in essence casting the current company in a negative light. Which, really, kind of reinforces my original point.

As for the others, fine, OK, they produce some of their products overseas. Their lower-end products. Which are clearly delineated in their pricing strata: Gibson won't even put their name on products not made in the US. They had a line of amps a little while back that were made by Trace Elliot in England (that were of extremely high quality) but they don't go around slapping the Gibson logo on guitars made in Mexico and Asia, something the others you mention do and which I have gone on record many times disagreeing with.

As for Gibson closing the Memphis factory, one could argue that it should have never been opened in the first place but it's really one of many mistakes made by previous management. But even Hank didn't start monkeying around by building Gibson's overseas, and the current situation and products show that the ship has been righted.

New makers that have always been sourced in Asia? Well, they didn't have a history of wrapping themselves in the flag and promising Americans lasting jobs, so again not really a good point of comparison for me.

And I have personally met people the BIG G has screwed over and left hanging and laid off--and I can tell you they have VERY different views of Gibson-- -
Companies are for profit-- period--
Im not defending Hartley PEavey -- the man was and is an innovator (but is probably a real jerk in person) -- he made -- or paid employees to make (Chip Todd designed the "T" series guitars --hence the "T"-- ) -- some REALLY GOOD crap--

I like the fact I can get GOOD used USA made gear for less than most mediocre level foreign made stuff--tickles me pink-- sad others cant embrace that -- but YEAH more FOR ME! :woohoo:

Hartley was the one that INNOVATED CNC machines for guitars---now EVERYONE makes them that way -- but oh he laid some folks off.... get a rope string him up!~!!

Ive laid folks off-- Ive fired folks -- Ive been laid off and Ive been fired--where is your point ? thats life-- poop happens --factories close-- revenue dries up our directions and goals CHANGE---GIBSON LAID OFF PEOPLE AND CLOSED A FACTORY LAST YEAR---GIBSONS REVENUES ARE DOWN--- they are GRASPING at straws to survive (Ill bet them China Epi sales is covering the nut;) ) are you pooping on them for layoffs WHILE OPENLY BRANDISHING THE MADE IN USA mantra? (Really did the KILL Agnessi??? wheres he been?)
-- is Hartley SUING Dean? -- come on man--he should sue the undercover boss people --- or hang em in the swamp--

You lost me on Trace Elliot-- which Gibson owned-- then SHUT DOWN PRODUCTION AND LAID OFF A bunch of PEOPLE-(oh my more layoffs approx 200 people according to Wiki) --and now PEAVEY owns Trace Elliot.....?

PEavey -- MADE SOME GREAT STUFF-- and its CHEAP to score it (my entire point) -- Id probably not like Mr Hartley Peavey-- much like Mr Tuners Discovered about "MR" Paul Reed SMith-- -- most these guys are ego maniacal A$$hats--

So wave the Gibbo flag and defend their honor--they are by no means "perfect" in form function or product I can tell you --its a crap shoot like all the rest ya get good ones and ya get goobers -- but a 250.00 USA made PEavey "goober" dont sting as bad as a 2500.00 usa made Gibson one --to the "average joe" if you know what I mean...

----Im telling ya --- ChIna Made Gibsons are all ready being cranked out..........probably sitting in warehouses now awaiting Summer NAMM 2020 ............

ANd I dont Like the new GIBBO CEO -- there I SAID it .....its out there........I need to lie down now--- Im dizzy --that was a LOT OF TYPING! --- damn it.................ugh

but CHIBOS are coming --- they are going to FLOOD the market!!!!! everyones gonna have a 400.00 Gibson 59 "reissue" CHina model BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH

I mighta,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, EGEEE, possibly my fatigue from hauling my anal retentive Father around in his wheelchair to doctors and side trips and of course the obligatory emergency bathroom trips and worry that he is going to fall out of his wheelchair and I will have to lift his whole 240 lbs up off the ground, made me see it but not have it sink in. I am still reading Hartley and trying to not see it as Harley,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, then you sneak a HArley's in there. My brain had a stinker
