So today is our first session with the Christian metal band. I really have NO idea what to expect. There is no material to practice, as this is a brand new effort and all the songs are only partially completed. Took the Von Herndon Double Neck with me. This is gonna be interesting...or terrifying... :-)

Please give us a proper review once you have settled in for the evening Brother.
I had no idea you had gone into another project!

A great and productive session. The guys were really impressed that i cracked them up like i did. I kept cracking jokes the whole time. We made a lot of progress. I laid a bass track down (on a Geddy Lee signature Fender) in one take and took over backing vocals too.

They thought they were only getting a replacement guitarist. They told me we made more progess in one session than they had in the past three months...had a lot of fun.

11 songs to go!!!!

That’s fantastic, congratulations on your new project Robert looking forward to hearing more about this endeavor.
Also sounds as if you’re working with a great bunch of people.
Cheers Mitch

Wow man well done--- they didn't realize they was getting the WHOLE package -- and a producer/arranger as well.....ROCKIN BOBBY! ;)

We were just talking about their Christmas cover of 'Hark The Herald Angel's Sing,' and they said, "We want to have it ready for release by at least December 15th in time for Christmas..."

I almost fell out of my chair. I said, "We are here...now...today, why not just knock it out now and release it right away???"

I grabbed their Geddy Lee signature Fender bass and knocked out the bass in a single take, then helped with backing vocals.

The vocalist wasn't really prepared to sing, so I encouraged him to just throw down a couple of "scratch tracks." I also backed him on vocals.

His hands were hurting him, so I took over the bass....anything to help move the project forward....

Ok!!!

Outfall's version of Hark The Herald Angel's Sing is now completed and we are at least 3 weeks ahead of schedule!!!!

I've been given the green light to share this as i have been officially mentioned in the personnel section of their website.

A little technical background on this song...

When i was brought in, they already had complete guitar tracks for this song recorded in D-standard. I was asked to start from scratch - out of respect for the departing guitarist - but stick with the basic D-standard tuning.

I wanted to make something truly unique, so i decided on staggering tracks using guitars tuned in both D-standard and in Standard tuning, and intentionally avoiding the all-too-common, full octave harmonizing.

I began with just a drum track and laid down a very basic bass line on a Geddy Lee Signature Fender Bass direct into a rack mount bass amp.

Next, i tracked one rhythm part on my Les Paul in D-Standard. I followed this with a second rhythm track played on my Schecter C1 in Std-tuning.

Two more tracks were then recorded of alternating & octaved, single-string phrases, that appear only in the chorus sections.

If you listen closely with headphones, you will hear two 'trills' in each chorus phrase - in homage to the trills played by Randy Rhoads in the live version of Ozzy's 'Paranoid.'

My Jackson San Dimas appears for the tremolo dive into oblivion at the end of the song.

This was a really different project for me and we had such a great time doing it.

Thanks for the link buddy, but after 7 minutes of trying to get my subscription to take I have left the site as it it kept giving me grief on the password.
