Kerry Brown
Ambassador of the Great Northern Bar Jams
I don't post here a lot but lately I've been too busy with the new band to do much more than quickly browse the forum. We are practicing two or three nights a week and I've been spending a lot of time learning new songs on my own. It has been forty years since I played in a band. I played live quite a bit but it was always in bar jams and open mic's. I played for me. Now I'm playing for the audience, totally different mindset. I spend a lot of time thinking about what songs the audience will like. I've started wearing "gig" clothes when on stage. I've been paring back my playing to just the basics needed to support the singer. I'm playing acoustic almost 100% now. I've always liked playing rhythm but with just two guitars and a singer someone has to hold down the rhythm, no bass and no drums so I'm it. I'm loving it. It has given me a new outlook on music and entertaining. I now consider myself an entertainer rather than a guitar player. It has been a revelation for me.
