Application is a good point.
I do not want to play anything but metal. I turned down a full-time touring gig with a country artist in 2007 because the money isn't wworth tolerating the "twang" of a country singer and "Contractually Mandated" use of Fender guitars and amplifiers.
I also left a couple of great paying full-time gigs (5 nights) to be able to play metal, so even an amp that didn't have clean channel capability wouldn't affect my playing. Having said that, I want a big, clean and articulate sound.
