EQ Settings for Stratocaster

Application is a good point.

I do not want to play anything but metal. I turned down a full-time touring gig with a country artist in 2007 because the money isn't wworth tolerating the "twang" of a country singer and "Contractually Mandated" use of Fender guitars and amplifiers.

I also left a couple of great paying full-time gigs (5 nights) to be able to play metal, so even an amp that didn't have clean channel capability wouldn't affect my playing. Having said that, I want a big, clean and articulate sound.

Yeah, this has been the constant struggle for me with Strats, both playing and listening to them. Hendrix' tone was horrible IMO. Robin Trower would be king of the World with a Les Paul. Blackmore here is bringing it, but let down by his thin, reedy sound...and I seem to remember an interview from way back where Blackmore basically said he glommed on to Strats because they look so cool and when he got it he wondered how he would ever use it and constantly struggled with the hum and thin, biting tone. Evidently it was the reason DiMarzio made the Quarter Pounder for him, so he could finally get some balls out of a Strat.

Special shout out to Gillan, who obviously can't hear himself right in the monitors but sounded great anyway.

Yeah. I can understand Blackmore’s reaction after having used 335s prior to Strats - quite the sonic shift.

When I watch the video I posted, I wait with anticipation for Jon Lord to start on the organ to smooth things out!

I've discovered that I really do like Super Strats, and even the sharpness of the 25.5" scale is offset by a really good humbucking pickup.

Yeah, me too!

And you’re right about the right pickup.

That was my discovery with the Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz. The scale length can exacerbate a bright pickup. Those pickups may have sounded much less harsh in a shorter scale length.

Ah well, I have them safely tucked away in their original boxes...just in case another project should come along!

(I wonder how they’d sound in a semi-hollow guitar...hmm.....!)
 
Using Jimmy Vaughn mim Strat w tex mex tomorrow in Studio for song 12. Strait in Bug V22 on clean for main chords then on gain ch on about 4 for rest,

Will EQ with position 4 & 5 for Chords & 1&2 for leads & no doubt side pick to make er squawk a lil

I've always avoided Seymour Duncan's in general because - IMHO - they have a tendency to be too bright and brittle. I have used Dimarzio more than any other pickup.

My favorite humbucker is the Gibson 498T, or the Epiphone H8BN - which is a clone of the 498T. It's very balanced with a very pronounced midrange that gives a very full tone with clarity and articulation.

I also liked the EMG 81/85 combination.

Empress, and Tech21 have parametric eq pedals too.

You may have a point about SD. But, I really like Seymour Duncan 59s and the Custom 5.

I did have a set of the flagship DiMarzio Super Distortions back in the ‘80s. Those were some pretty awesome pickups!
