Happy Thanksgiving Guys

Is it Thanksgiving in America already? Happy Thanksgiving, guys!

Speaking of which, we here in Brazil often eat roast turkey dressed with honey (or Karo corn syrup), pineapple and peaches. Brazilians call this recipe "Peru à Califórnia" (California style Turkey), but I never really saw it in any American book or website. Do you guys in the US eat it like that?

I have never had it like that.

Nope. We don’t eat it like that. I suppose there may be some who may try something different like that, but I’ve never heard of it. We often do roast ham with a slice of pineapple, though. But, I’ve never heard of adding peaches.

Most of us in the US eat it plain roasted, with stuffing. There are some who actually deep fry it. It seems every year there is a report of someone getting seriously burned from grease or starting their house on fire because of some mishap while trying to deep fry a turkey.

I much prefer the traditional roasting method.

By the way, Thanksgiving in the US is always the last Thursday in November, so the actual calendar date varies.

This year I‘m especially stoked about that time of year because I have tickets to see Brian Setzer and his Orchestra two two days before Thanksgiving!

Yay!

Hell... Even in California, we don't eat turkey like that! I think Karo corn syrup is banned in California too... :rolleyes2:

Maybe it's high fructose corn syrup that's banned there? HFCS is chemically altered, a very different thing from plain old corn syrup. Not great when used as a sweetener to cut costs, but in smaller amounts it can do very good things for the texture of baked goods.

American Thanksgiving is so special to me. It celebrates coming to America and making friends with the native Americans. Of course, later we stole their land and put them in reservations, later found out some of the land was valuable (oil), and stuck them in more worthless land.

Of course, now we concentrate on what is important in our lives and give thanks to the people and things in our lives we are greatful for.

I apologize for my sarcastic insomnia rant (5am).
