First collaborative jam

There are several way to do it. You can download the MP3 file and use your phone to record you playing along to it. You can also import the MP3 file into a program for recording on a pc or a Mac then use one of the many devices to hook a guitar up to a computer to add your playing. I use a Mac with an Apogee Jam device ($130 CDN) and GarageBand (free). There is a bit of a learning curve to using a pc or a Mac but there are lots of great tutorials on YouTube.
 
Waiting for others to jump in here. I challenge you to take a stab at this. Don't be embarrassed. The point is not to criticize but to help each other learn to improvise. I know I could use help. I have found this very useful on other forums for improving the way I think about improvising.
 
After listing to RVA's take on this, I'm a bit humbled to try to come up with something. I've been so busy in my offline life, I have had very little spare time to work on my guitar playing. This will be a tough act to follow.

Are you going to make this downloadable for us rhythm section bumpkins? I just got a cajon and could do with some practice to real tunes, am thinking to add a bit of percussion and might as well do it to a track with some lead on it. I can also do some bassy things too.

I have never done this before, so bear with me. I just enabled downloads. Let me know if that works.
 
That sounds really good with the rest! I think the slide version is pretty much complete as it is, no bass needed.

I just realised that, given the amount of guitarists on here, I should also do a cajon version with the original, so others can have a go at lead with some percussion. And maybe some bass. I'm busy with that other chord progression in mind though, plus this month I'm also arranging a cover of Statesboro Blues (where I play Cajon, bass, rhythm and lead guitar and sing, not all at the same time) plus writing a walking jazz bassline and creating a funk bass groove for a competition, as well as practicing for my band's new setlist and trying to work on my dynamics. Ack! Too many ideas!

This is great though, this kind of thing is what really makes me tick :)

I'd like to hear Statesboro Blues when you're done. It's a great song. And yeah! This is a lot of fun.
 
When RVA, eSGEe and I were first talking about putting this site together, this is exactly what I had hoped would be part of this site! One suggestion would be to add your solo track along with the combined efforts. This way other members would be able to choose which tracks to import. So if someone wanted to leave Kerry's first rhythm out, but use the slide, RVA's lead and Anita's percussion, they could add their own rhythm. Or any combination of the individual inputs.

I know it's a weak excuse, but I've been so busy working at home after my day job, I just haven't been able to jump in here. Not that I could do as good of a job as y'all have done so far, but I really want to be part of this too. With the little bit of extra time I had this last weekend I was soldering. so much music and so little time.

Good idea! As long as we can all agree to use Kerry's original for timing, even if we don't include it in the final mix. I'll do a better drum track, see if I can get into the start better.
